2024 Riau Gubernatorial Election
The 2024 Riau gubernatorial election was held on 27 November 2024 as part of 2024 Indonesian local elections, nationwide local elections to elect the governor of Riau for a five-year term. The previous election was held in 2018. The election was won by former House of Representatives (Indonesia), House of Representatives member Abdul Wahid (governor), Abdul Wahid of the National Awakening Party (PKB). Electoral system The election, like other local elections in 2024, follow the First-past-the-post voting, first-past-the-post system where the candidate with the most votes wins the election, even if they do not win a majority. It is possible for a candidate to run Uncontested election, uncontested, in which case the candidate is still required to win a majority of votes "against" an "None of the above, empty box" option. Advanced Indonesia Coalition
The Advanced Indonesia Coalition (), formerly the Great Indonesia Awakening Coalition (), is an official List of political parties in Indonesia, political coalition in Indonesia which was formed through a political agreement between two parties from the Onward Indonesia Coalition, namely the Gerindra Party (Gerindra) and the National Awakening Party (PKB), to nominate Prabowo Subianto, Minister of Defence, as a presidential candidate in 2024 Indonesian general election, 2024 Indonesian presidential election. It is current ruling the Red and White Cabinet, government. Later at August 2023, Golkar and the National Mandate Party (PAN) joined the coalition. However in September, the PKB decided to leave the coalition and join the Coalition of Change for Unity.
