2024 National
The 2024 KIOTI National was held from November 26 to December 1 at the Mary Brown's Centre in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. It was the third Grand Slam event and second major of the 2024–25 curling season. Scotland's Bruce Mouat rink won their third straight Grand Slam title, defeating Brad Jacobs Alberta-based rink in the men's final, 5–3. It was a career 9th Slam win for the Scots, who finished the event with a 6–1 record, and took home $38,000. In the final, Team Jacobs were forced to a single in the first, and responded by forcing Mouat to a draw to tie the game up 1–1 after two. After two blank ends, Mouat forced the Jacobs rink to a draw for one in the fifth after Mouat split the house. Newfoundland And Labrador
Newfoundland and Labrador is the easternmost province of Canada, in the country's Atlantic region. 2023 National
The 2023 Daedong (company), KIOTI National (curling), National was held from November 7 to 12 at the Pictou County Wellness Centre in Westville Road, Nova Scotia, Westville Road, Nova Scotia. It was the second Grand Slam of Curling, Grand Slam event and first major of the 2023–24 curling season. In the men's final, Italy's Joël Retornaz team continued their strong season by defeating the Niklas Edin rink from Sweden, 6–5. It was their second straight Slam victory, and third ever. In the women's final, South Korea's Gim Eun-ji rink continued their strong play from the 2023 Pan Continental Curling Championships the week prior, defeating the previously undefeated Rachel Homan rink from Ontario 7–6 in the championship game. Ross Whyte
Ross Whyte (born 31 August 1998 in York, England) is a Scottish curler from Stirling. Skipping his own team, Whyte has won silver at the 2018 World Junior Curling Championships and won bronze at the 2019 World Junior Curling Championships and 2019 Winter Universiade. As alternate for the Bruce Mouat rink, he won two European championship titles (, ) and earned a silver medal in the men's team event of the 2022 Winter Olympics. Career 2016–2019 In 2016, Whyte was selected to represent Great Britain at the 2016 Winter Youth Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway. Yannick Schwaller
Yannick Schwaller (born 31 March 1995 in Solothurn) is a Swiss curler from Recherswil. He currently skips his own team out of Geneva. Career Juniors Schwaller skipped the Swiss junior men's team at three straight World Junior Curling Championships. In 2014, he led his team of Reto Keller, throwing fourth stones, Patrick Witschonke, Michael Probst and Romano Meier to a 6–3 round robin record. They then beat Italy's Amos Mosaner in a tiebreaker to qualify for the playoffs. There, they defeated Canada's Braden Calvert and Norway's Eirik Mjøen in the 3 vs. 4 page playoff and semifinal games respectively, qualifying for the final. In the final, they won 6–5 over Scotland's Kyle Smith rink to become the World Junior champions, becoming just the fifth Swiss men's team to do so. Joël Retornaz
Joël Thierry Retornaz (born 30 September 1983 in Chêne-Bougeries, Genève, Switzerland) is an Italian curler from Cembra. He was the skip of the Italian men's Olympic curling team in 2006, 2018, and 2022. Retornaz gained sudden renown in Italy during the 2006 Winter Olympics. Although Italy has little curling tradition, and the sport was practiced only by a few hundred amateurs, Retornaz led the semi-professional Italian team to several unexpected victories over strong teams, including Canada. This breakthrough inspired a sudden national curiosity for curling, previously almost unknown in Italy. Retornaz returned to the Olympics in 2018, skipping the Italians again while throwing third rocks. The team finished 9th with a 3-6 record. Christina Black
Christina Black (born October 21, 1987) is a Canadian curler from Halifax, Nova Scotia. She currently skips her own team out of the Halifax Curling Club. Career Women's Black joined Team Mary-Anne Arsenault for the 2014–15 season at third. The team, along with second Jane Snyder and lead Jennifer Baxter, won two tour events early in the season, the Dave Jones Molson Mayflower Cashspiel and the Gibson's Cashspiel. They also won the 2015 Nova Scotia Scotties Tournament of Hearts, qualifying them for the 2015 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Black's first. There, the team finished in seventh place with a 5–6 record. In 2016, Jennifer Crouse joined at second when Snyder left the team. A few seasons later, they won the 2018 Nova Scotia Scotties Tournament of Hearts and won a bronze medal at the 2018 Scotties Tournament of Hearts. 2024 Tour Challenge
The 2024 HearingLife Tour Challenge was held from October 1 to 6 at the Bell Aliant Centre in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. It was the first Grand Slam event of the 2024–25 curling season, and the first event following the series' acquisition by The Curling Group. One of the main changes brought in by the new ownership included streaming every single game on every sheet. Manitoba's Team Kerri Einarson won the women's final, defeating Team Rachel Homan from Ottawa, 5–4. It was Einarson's sixth Grand Slam. The team featured a temporary front-end of Dawn McEwen who was filling in for regular second Shannon Birchard who was injured, and Krysten Karwacki who was filling in for Briane Harris who was waiting on an appeal for being barred for testing positive for a banned substance. World Curling Federation
World Curling, formerly the World Curling Federation (WCF) is the world governing body for curling accreditation, with offices in Perth, Scotland. It was formed out of the International Curling Federation (ICF), when the push for Olympic Winter Sport status was made. The name was changed in 1990 to the WCF and then to World Curling in 2024. The ICF was initially formed in 1966 as a committee of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club in Perth after the success of the Scotch Cup series of world championships held between Canada and Scotland. Brad Gushue
Bradley Raymond Gushue, ONL ( ; born June 16, 1980) is a Canadian curler from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. Gushue, along with teammates Russ Howard, Mark Nichols, Jamie Korab and Mike Adam, represented Canada in curling at the 2006 Winter Olympics, where they won the gold medal by defeating Finland 10–4. He also represented Canada at the 2022 Winter Olympics, where he won a bronze medal. In addition to the Olympics, Gushue won the 2017 World Men's Curling Championship with teammates Mark Nichols, Brett Gallant, and Geoff Walker. Kim Eun-jung (curler)
Kim Eun-jung (born November 29, 1990), nicknamed "Annie", is a South Korean curler from Uiseong. She currently skips her own team on the World Curling Tour. Kim skipped the national team from 2016 to 2018 and represented Korea on home ice at the 2018 Winter Olympics, where her team won a silver medal. Career As a junior skip, Kim led South Korea to three straight silver medals at the Pacific-Asia Junior Curling Championships. Sayaka Yoshimura
is a Japanese curler from Sapporo, Hokkaido. She is the skip of the FORTIUS curling team, which won the Japan Curling Championships in 2015, 2021 and 2025. At the international level, she has represented Japan three times at the World Women's Curling Championship (, , ) and two Pacific-Asia Curling Championships in and , winning the gold medal in 2021.
