2024 Brisbane City Council Election
The 2024 Brisbane City Council election was held on 16 March 2024 to elect a lord mayor and 26 councillors to the City of Brisbane. The election was held as part of the statewide local government elections in Queensland, Australia. Brisbane City Council elections are significant in the scope of Australian local government politics, as the council is the largest in the country by population, area and has the largest economy of any Local Government Area. The Liberal National Party has held Brisbane's mayoralty since the election of Campbell Newman at the 2004 election, and a majority of wards since their landslide victory in the 2008 election. The party was led by incumbent Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner, who succeeded Graham Quirk on 8 April 2019. Adrian Schrinner
Adrian Schrinner is the incumbent Lord Mayor of Brisbane. He was sworn in on 8 April 2019 after outgoing Lord Mayor Graham Quirk announced his resignation, Schrinner was endorsed by the LNP Party Room on 31 March 2019 as Quirk's successor. He has represented the ward of Chandler for the Liberal National Party of Queensland since September 2005. Schrinner was elected Deputy Mayor in April 2011 after the post was vacated by incoming Lord Mayor Graham Quirk. Schrinner is the youngest person in Brisbane's history to be in the position. On 28 March 2020, Schrinner was popularly elected to the Lord Mayoralty defeating Labor's candidate, Patrick Condren. 2004 Brisbane City Council Election
Elections of the Brisbane City Council in Queensland, Australia, were held on Saturday, 27 March 2004 to elect a councillor to each of the local government area's 26 wards and the direct election of the Lord Mayor of Brisbane. The election resulted in the election of Campbell Newman of the Liberal Party as Lord Mayor, defeating the Labor Party incumbent, Tim Quinn, by 2.5% of the mayoral two-party-preferred vote. The Liberals won 9 wards to Labor's 17. Newman became the first Liberal Lord Mayor since Sallyanne Atkinson's narrow defeat in 1991. The Parliament of Queensland is the legislature of Queensland, Australia. Legalise Cannabis Queensland (registered with the Electoral Commission Queensland as Legalise Cannabis Qld (Party)) is a political party based in Queensland, Australia.
