The Australian Labor Party (Queensland Branch), commonly known as Queensland Labor or as just Labor inside Queensland, is the state branch of the Australian Labor Party in the state of Queensland. It has functioned in the state since the 1880s. History Trade unionists in Queensland had begun attempting to secure parliamentary representation as early as the mid-1880s. William McNaughton Galloway, the president of the Seamen's Union, mounted an unsuccessful campaign as an independent in an 1886 by-election. Deagon is an outer northern suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Deagon had a population of 3,675 people. Geography Deagon is north of the CBD. The Gateway Arterial Road runs through the western side of the suburb. Deagon has a flat topography with one of its boundaries being Cabbage Tree Creek. The Creek's catchment is largely urbanised but the Boondall Wetlands, which is separated from Deagon by the Creek, plays an important role in providing essential habitat for a range of birds and animals, including migratory birds, which make their way from the arctic circle. The Boondall Wetlands near Deagon have ecosystems that are fresh as well as areas that are salt water. The smaller reserves such as Brighton and Deagon Wetlands are fresh water only. Elections to Brisbane City Council were held on Saturday, 19 March 2016 to elect a councillor to each of the local government area's 26 wards and the direct election of the Lord Mayor of Brisbane. The election resulted in the comprehensive re-election of the Liberal National Party under Graham Quirk as Lord Mayor. The Liberal National's increased their representation by one ward to a total of 19 of 26. The lord mayoral result of 59.3% of the two-party-preferred vote was reduced for Quirk from the 69.5% result at the previous election. A ward is a local authority area, typically used for electoral purposes. Boondall is a suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Boondall had a population of 9,217 people. It was formerly known as Cabbage Tree Creek (after the creek that flows through the area). Geography Situated approximately north of Brisbane near Moreton Bay, almost halfway between Brisbane and the coastal city of Redcliffe. Bounded on the north by Deagon, Sandgate and Shorncliffe, on the east by Nudgee and Nudgee Beach, on the south by Banyo, Geebung and Virginia and on the west by Taigum and Zillmere. The borders of Boondall are defined by loosely following the Cabbage Tree Creek (Tighgum) to the north and then following down Muller Road in the west. Sandgate is a northern coastal suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Sandgate had a population of 4,909 people. The town became a popular destination for the people of Brisbane in the early 20th century and remains popular due to its coastline, including Lovers Walk along the bay between Sandgate and neighbouring Shorncliffe as well as Moora Park and Beach. Geebung is a suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Geebung had a population of 4,626 people. Geography The suburb is centred on its railway station on the Caboolture railway line. History The suburb takes its name from its railway station, which in turn was named after the fruit of the plant Persoonia media, known as "jibung" in the Dharuk language. The Geebung Baptist church was initiated with a stump capping ceremony on Saturday 7 February 1925; prior to this services had been held in the war memorial hall.
