2023–24 Toronto Maple Leafs Season
The 2023–24 Toronto Maple Leafs season was the franchise's 107th season (106th season of play) in the National Hockey League. Since the Pittsburgh Penguins missed the playoffs for the first time since 2006 along with the Washington Capitals and the Nashville Predators also missing the playoffs for the first time since 2014, the Maple Leafs tied their rivals, the Boston Bruins, for the longest active playoff streak with both making the playoffs every year since 2017 (Toronto would take sole possession of the record the next season when Boston finished second-last in the conference). The Maple Leafs played two games in Stockholm at the Avicii Arena on November 17 and 19 as part of the NHL Global Series. Brad Treliving was named general manager on May 31, 2023, after the team parted ways with Kyle Dubas at the end of the 2022–23 season. The Atlantic Division is a name used by the National Hockey League to describe a division of teams in the Eastern Conference (NHL), Eastern Conference. The original Atlantic Division, the predecessor of which was the Patrick Division, was formed in 1993 as part of the Eastern Conference in a league realignment. As part of a 2013 realignment, the entirety of the former Atlantic Division was realigned into the Metropolitan Division. The 2023–24 Washington Capitals season was the 50th season (49th season of play) for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise that was established on June 11, 1974. The Capitals returned to the playoffs after missing them for the first time since 2013–14 season (and only the second time since 2006–07), ending their eight-season playoff streak, and attempted to win the team's second Stanley Cup and their first since 2018. The 2023–24 Philadelphia Flyers season was the 57th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on June 5, 1967. On April 16, 2024, the Flyers were eliminated from playoff contention following a 2–1 loss to the Washington Capitals. The Flyers suffered a late season collapse, as the team had 36-26-9 on March 23, only to fail to get a win in their next 8 games. The 2023–24 Detroit Red Wings season was the 98th season for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise that was established on September 25, 1926. It was the Red Wings' seventh season at Little Caesars Arena. This was the Red Wings' second season under head coach Derek Lalonde. The Red Wings played two games on November 16 and 17 in Stockholm at the Avicii Arena as part of the NHL Global Series. The Red Wings were eliminated from playoff contention for the eighth consecutive season via tiebreaker on April 16, 2024, after the Washington Capitals' 2–1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers. On March 27, 2023, the Maple Leafs clinched a playoff spot after the Ottawa Senators defeated the Florida Panthers. Kyle Dubas
Kyle Benjamin Dubas ( ; born November 29, 1985) is a Canadian ice hockey executive who is the current president of hockey operations and general manager for the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League (NHL). He previously served as the general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He attended Brock University and graduated with a degree in Sports Management, and started his career by briefly acting as a sports agent, player agent. Afterward, he served in various roles with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), including a term as the team's general manager. Dubas joined the Maple Leafs organization as an assistant general manager in 2014, and played a key role in developing the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League (AHL). In 2018, the Marlies captured the Calder Cup as AHL Champions.
