2023–24 Detroit Red Wings Season
The 2023–24 Detroit Red Wings season was the 98th season for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise that was established on September 25, 1926. It was the Red Wings' seventh season at Little Caesars Arena. This was the Red Wings' second season under head coach Derek Lalonde. The Red Wings played two games on November 16 and 17 in Stockholm at the Avicii Arena as part of the NHL Global Series. The Red Wings were eliminated from playoff contention for the eighth consecutive season via tiebreaker on April 16, 2024, after the Washington Capitals' 2–1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers. They finished the season with a 41–32–9 record. This would result in their first non-losing season since 2015-16. The Atlantic Division is a name used by the National Hockey League to describe a division of teams in the Eastern Conference (NHL), Eastern Conference. The original Atlantic Division, the predecessor of which was the Patrick Division, was formed in 1993 as part of the Eastern Conference in a league realignment. As part of a 2013 realignment, the entirety of the former Atlantic Division was realigned into the Metropolitan Division. The Detroit Red Wings are a professional ice hockey team based in Detroit. They are members of the Atlantic Division in the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL) and are one of the Original Six teams of the league. Founded in 1926, the team was known as the Cougars from then until 1930. For the 1930–31 and 1931–32 seasons the team was called the Falcons, and in 1932 changed their name to the Red Wings. The 2023–24 Chicago Blackhawks season was the 98th season (97th season of play) for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise that was established on September 25, 1926. The Blackhawks were led by second-year head coach Luke Richardson. This was the first season since 2006–07 that Jonathan Toews was not on the roster as his contract expired at the end of the previous season. In addition, it was the first full-season since that same year without Patrick Kane after he was traded to the New York Rangers in February 2023. Ville Husso (born 6 February 1995) is a Finnish professional ice hockey goaltender for the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League (NHL). Playing career Husso started his career in the youth setup at HIFK in his hometown of Helsinki. He made his debut with the club's men's team during the 2013–14 Liiga season. He reached the Liiga finals with HIFK in the 2015–16 season, where they fell short to Tappara. Sebastian Cossa (born November 21, 2002) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender for the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League (AHL) while under contract to the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was drafted 15th overall by the Red Wings in the 2021 NHL entry draft. Jan Bednář (born 26 August 2002) is a Czech professional ice hockey goaltender for Ässät of the Finnish Liiga. Bednář was drafted 107th overall by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. Playing career During the 2018–19 Czech Extraliga season, Bednář made his professional debut for HC Karlovy Vary at the age of 16, becoming the youngest goaltender to play for Karlovy Vary.
