2023–24 MJHL Season
The 2023–24 season was the 107th season of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL). Season Highlights The Winkler Flyers won their first league championship since 1998 after sweeping the Steinbach Pistons in the finals. Portage Terriers Head Coach, Blake Spiller, became the all-time winningest coach in MJHL regular season history. Manitoba Junior Hockey League
The Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) is a Junior ice hockey, Junior 'A' ice hockey league operating in the Canadian province of Manitoba and one of nine member leagues of the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL). The MJHL consists of thirteen teams all based within the province of Manitoba, eight of which qualify for each year's playoffs. The playoff champion is awarded the Turnbull Cup, the Junior 'A' championship trophy for the province of Manitoba. The winner of the MJHL playoffs (Turnbull Cup) earns a berth in the national championship, the Centennial Cup. History Early years (1918 to 1949) The league's first year of operation was the 1918–19 season, making it the oldest junior league in Canada. It was known as the Winnipeg and District League until 1931, when it became the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. Mike Ridley Trophy
The Mike Ridley Trophy is awarded to the player who leads the Manitoba Junior Hockey League in points scoring during the regular season. The trophy is named after former National Hockey League star Mike Ridley, who holds the List of top goal scorers in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, MJHL single season scoring records for points (191) and goals (91), which were set with the St. Boniface Saints during the 1982–83 season. The current trophy was first awarded in 2003, replacing the Selkirk Steelers Trophy previous awarded to the scoring champion. Neepawa Titans
The Neepawa Titans (formerly the Neepawa Natives) are a Canadian Junior "A" ice hockey team from Neepawa, Manitoba. They are members of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL), a part of the Canadian Junior Hockey League, and play home games at the Yellowhead Centre. History Neepawa Natives (1989–2021) Neepawa's MJHL team was founded in 1989 as the Neepawa Natives. The creation of the original team name was rooted in the early 1960s, with the then-named Neepawa Intermediates hockey team. In 1963, Ron Guinn and Cecil Pittman suggested the Neepawa Intermediates should create an actual team name for the Neepawa-based hockey club. A name that would connect to Neepawa (a Cree name meaning ''abundance'' or ''plenty'') was explored. The name 'Natives' was selected because Neepawa and Natives both start with the letter 'N', and were seven letters long, which led Pittman and Guinn to believe it was a good fit for the team. Dauphin Kings
The Dauphin Kings are a Junior "A" ice hockey team from Dauphin, Manitoba, Canada. They are members of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL), a part of the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) and Hockey Canada. The Kings were established in 1967 and play at the Credit Union Place. History 1967–68 In the fall of 1967 Dauphin, along with the Selkirk Steelers, Portage Terriers and Fort Garry Frontiersmen, started the Central Manitoba Junior Hockey League. 1968–69 After years of trying to secure an MJHL franchise Dauphin finally got its wish when the CMJHL and the MJHL merged for the 1968–69 season. The Kings opened the season with nine straight wins and remained undefeated for twelve games. OCN Blizzard
The Northern Manitoba Blizzard are a Junior "A" ice hockey team from The Pas, Manitoba, Canada. They are members of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, a part of the Canadian Junior Hockey League and Hockey Canada. History The team was founded by the Opaskwayak Cree Nation as the OCN Blizzard in 1996. It was a year in the making with the Cree Nation's goal to enter the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL). Their hockey development and recreation department spent many months prior getting the community members on board through community meetings and house to house visits. Virden Oil Capitals
The Virden Oil Capitals are a Canadian junior 'A' ice hockey team based in Virden, Manitoba. The Oil Capitals are members of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. History The franchise was founded as the Winnipeg Rangers in 1956. The Rangers became the St. Boniface Saints in 1967 and later the Winnipeg Saints in 2000. The Oil Capitals were created in the spring of 2012 when a group of local investors purchased the Saints franchise and relocated it to Virden to play at newly constructed Tundra Oil & Gas Place. Winnipeg Blues
The Winnipeg Blues are a Manitoba Junior Hockey League team based in Oak Bluff, Manitoba, Oak Bluff, a suburban area of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The team was founded in 1930 as the Winnipeg Monarchs (MJHL), Winnipeg Monarchs and also formerly known as the Fort Garry Blues (1978-1984) and Winnipeg South Blues (1984-2010). The Blues/Monarchs hockey club has won 17 Turnbull Cups as MJHL champions, two ANAVET Cups, and six Abbott Cups. The Monarchs were also three-time Memorial Cup champions before the reorganization of Canadian junior hockey in 1970. Selkirk Steelers
The Selkirk Steelers are a Junior "A" ice hockey team from Selkirk, Manitoba, Canada. They are members of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, a part of the Canadian Junior Hockey League and Hockey Canada. History Junior "A" hockey in Selkirk dates back to at least 1918, the founding of the MJHL. As one of the original members of the MJHL, the Selkirk Fishermen became the second Turnbull Cup, MJHL Champions by winning the 1920 playoffs. The Fishermen were crowned Western Junior "A" Champions and given the Abbott Cup. They moved on to the Memorial Cup for the national championship, but were defeated by the Toronto Canoe Club Paddlers.
