2023–24 Iraq FA Cup
The 2023–24 Iraq FA Cup was the 34th edition of the Iraqi knockout football cup as a club competition, the main domestic cup in Iraqi football. Due to time constraints, only clubs from the top two tiers of the Iraqi football league system participated in the competition. The tournament began on 26 January 2024 with the first round between Iraqi Premier Division League clubs and the lower-placed Iraq Stars League clubs, before the top Iraq Stars League clubs entered the competition in the Round of 16. The final was played on 10 July 2024 at Al-Shaab Stadium in Baghdad. The winners of the competition were Al-Shorta, who won their first title with a 1–0 victory over Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya. Iraq FA Cup
The Iraq FA Cup, known as the Iraq Cup ( ar, كأس العراق) in Arabic, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic Iraqi football. First held in the 1948–49 season for clubs and institutions before returning in 1975–76 for clubs only, it is organised by the Iraq Football Association. The tournament begins with several rounds played between lower division clubs, twelve of which advance to the Round of 32, where the Iraqi Premier League clubs are entered. This is followed by the Round of 16, the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and the final which is played as a single leg in Baghdad. The winners of the competition are awarded a place in the next season's AFC Cup group stage as well as qualifying for the Iraqi Super Cup where they play against the league champions at the start of the following season (or the league runners-up, if the cup winners have won the double). Al-Hussein SC (Iraq)
Al-Hussein ( ar, نادي الحسين), is an Iraqi football club based in Baghdad. They were crowned champions of the 2015–16 Iraq Division One which promoted them to the Iraqi Premier League for the first time in their history. History Al-Hussein, named after the Imam of Shia Husayn ibn Ali, were founded in 1999 during the reign of Saddam Hussein. Their first participation in the Iraq FA Cup was in the 2002–03 edition when they were in the third division of Iraqi football; they faced Al-Tharthar in Round 1 on September 2, 2002 and the game ended 0–0 with Al-Hussein being knocked out of the competition via penalty shootout. Al-Minaa Sports Club ( ar, نادي الميناء الرياضي, lit=Port Sports Club) is an Iraqi multi-sport club based in Al-Maqal, Basra that participates in the Iraq Division One, the second tier of Iraqi football. It is one of the most popular clubs in Iraq, particularly in the south, and became the first club outside Baghdad to win the Iraqi Premier League. Al-Minaa was founded on November 22, 1931, in Al-Maqal. In 1974, the club was merged with another team called Al-Bareed to form a single club called Al-Muwasalat, and it was a strange situation because the Al-Bareed team were based in Baghdad while Al-Minaa were based in Basra and the two teams met in Baghdad on the day of the match only, so after just one season the club was dissolved and Al-Minaa returned in their place.
