2023–24 AJHL Season
The 2023–24 AJHL season was the 60th season of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL). The season began with 16 teams and ended with 11 teams after the surprise mid-season departure of five teams to join the BCHL. The Calgary Canucks swept the Whitecourt Wolverines in 4 games to win the league championship. League changes The season began with 16 teams distributed between 2 divisions of 8 teams each. On January 20, 2024, the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) announced that the Blackfalds Bulldogs, Brooks Bandits, Okotoks Oilers, Sherwood Park Crusaders, and Spruce Grove Saints would move from the AJHL to the BCHL in the 2024-25 season. The BCHL had planned to wait until the end of the season to make the announcement, however rumours had already begun to circulate online. Alberta Junior Hockey League
The Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) is an Alberta-based Junior A ice hockey league that belongs to the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL). It was formed as a five-team league in 1964. The 2023–24 season began with 16 teams, however 5 teams did not finish the season after it was announced that they planned to join the BCHL in the 2024–25 season. The regular season league champions receive the Dave Duchak Trophy. The playoff champions receive the Inter Pipeline Cup (previously known as the Carling O'Keefe trophy and Gas Drive Cup). The winner of the AJHL playoffs continues on to play in the Centennial Cup tournament, which determines Canadian Junior A champion. History The early 1960s saw a much different junior hockey scene in Alberta than what currently exists. 2024–25 AJHL Season
The 2024–25 AJHL season was the 61st season of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL). Competition began on 24 August 2024 with a 35-game exhibition season, followed by a 54-game regular season which ran from 13 September 2024 to 15 March 2025. The Calgary Canucks finished the regular season in first place overall, and went on to win the AJHL championship Inter Pipeline Cup and the national championship 2025 Centennial Cup. The Canucks hosted the national championship as well as the 2024 AJHL showcase. Whitecourt Wolverines goaltender, Zac Onyskiw, was named most valuable player by the AJHL and the CJHL. The CJHL is made up of nine Junior A leagues (including the AJHL) from across Canada. Onyskiw finished the regular season with a 1.87 goals against average (GAA) and a save percentage of .939. Olds Grizzlys
The Olds Grizzlys are a junior A ice hockey club in the Alberta Junior Hockey League. They play in Olds, Alberta, Canada with home games at the Olds & District Sports Complex. History The Olds Grizzlys joined the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) after the Taber Golden Suns franchise relocated to Olds following the 1980–81 season. The Grizzlys were a dominant team in the AJHL in the early 1990s with three straight league championships and a Centennial Cup title as Junior A national champions, won on home ice, in 1994. On June 30, 2017, the league announced that the franchise had been transferred to new ownership called the "Friends of the Grizzlys." The Fort McMurray Oil Barons are a Junior A ice hockey team in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL). They play in Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada at the Centerfire Place. The Drumheller Dragons are a junior A ice hockey team based in Drumheller, Alberta, Canada, with home games at the 1,800 seat Drumheller Memorial Arena. The Camrose Kodiaks are a Canadian Junior "A" ice hockey team in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL). The Drayton Valley Thunder is a junior ice hockey team in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL). The Thunder are members of the Canadian Junior Hockey League and are eligible to compete for the Doyle Cup and National Junior A Championship. Grande Prairie Storm
The Grande Prairie Storm is a junior A ice hockey team in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) based in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada, with home games at Bonnetts Energy Centre. History The organization was founded in 1966 as the Junior Athletics as a member of the Peace Junior B Hockey League (PJHL). The team rebranded around 1972 as the Grande Prairie North Stars. When the Quesnel Millionaires and Prince George Spruce Kings joined the league in 1975, the league became the Peace-Cariboo Junior Hockey League (PCJHL).
