2023 World Baseball Classic
The 2023 World Baseball Classic (WBC) was an international professional baseball tournament and the fifth iteration of the World Baseball Classic. It began on March 8, 2023, and ran until March 21. It was originally scheduled to take place in 2021, four years after the 2017 World Baseball Classic, previous event, but was canceled in May 2020, as a result of the Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on sports, COVID-19 pandemic. It was later announced that 2023 World Baseball Classic qualification, qualifications for the Classic would start in September 2022, as agreed by World Baseball Classic Inc. The Czech Republic national baseball team is the national baseball team of the Czech Republic. The team competes in the biennial European Baseball Championship and debuted in the 2023 World Baseball Classic. History Czech clubs began playing against teams of United States Army servicemen in the immediate aftermath of World War II, but the development of the sport was halted after the fall of the Iron Curtain and would not resume until Bill Arce's baseball clinics in Prague, starting in 1969. WBSC Europe promoted a Goodwill game between Team Eastern Europe and Team Ukraine played at the Eastern European Day at the Brooklyn Cyclones in Brooklyn, NY on June 1st 2025 WBSC Europe is the governing body of the sport of baseball and softball in Europe. It was established on February 10, 2018, during a Congress of the Confederation of European Baseball and the European Softball Federation in Val d’Europe, France. The 2009 World Baseball Classic (WBC) was an International Baseball Federation, international baseball competition. It began on March 5 and finished March 23.
