2023 Individual Long Track World Championship
The 2023 FIM Long Track World Championship was the 53rd edition of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme, FIM Individual Long Track World Championship. Mathieu Trésarrieu was the defending champion having won the title in 2022 Individual Long Track World Championship, 2022, but did not compete. Germany's Martin Smolinski won the championship by seven points from Chris Harris (speedway rider), Chris Harris, despite not winning a Grand Prix. It was the second time he won the title, having also triumphed in 2018 Individual Long Track World Championship, 2018. Kenneth Kruse Hansen completed the podium on countback, ahead of Zach Wajtknecht. Romano Hummel
Romano Hummel (born 4 January 1999) is an international speedway rider from the Netherlands. Speedway career Hummel became the Long Track World Champion, after winning the 2021 Individual Long Track World Championship. He had previously won a bronze medal at the 2017 Team Long Track World Championship. He rode in the 2016 Premier League speedway season of British Speedway in 2016, riding for the Berwick Bandits. In 2023, he was part of the Dutch team, along with Dave Meijerink, Mika Meijer and Jannick de Jong, that won the 2023 Team Long Track World Championship. Tero Kalevi Aarnio (born 17 April 1984) is a motorcycle speedway rider from Finland. Career Aarnio was a member of Finland team at 2007 Speedway World Cup. This led to his signing for Berwick Bandits for the 2008 and 2009 seasons. He then joined Scunthorpe Scorpions in 2010 and 2011, and Workington Comets in 2012 and 2013. For the 2014 and 2015 seasons, he was with Glasgow and Newcastle respectively. Moreover, in the 2016 season with Scunthorpe and returned to Newcastle in 2018. In 2019, he rode for Birmingham. Gaétan Stella (born 10 April 1999) is a motorcycle speedway rider from France. He is a member of the France national long track team. Career Stella won the world long track 250cc title in 2016. However, Stella came to prominence in 2017, after becoming the French national Champion. Stella was called up for France in the 2018 Speedway of Nations. He has represented both the France national speedway team and the Long track national team and competed in the 2019 Speedway of Nations. Theo Pijper (born 11 February 1980) is a Dutch motorcycle speedway rider. He earned 2 caps for the Netherlands national speedway team. Career Born in Dokkum, Netherlands, Pijper first rode a motorbike at the age of five. He was a successful long track rider before starting his speedway career. He made his debut in British speedway in 2002 with Edinburgh Monarchs, staying with the team until 2007 in a spell that included a Premier League title in 2003. In 2004, he won the European Grasstrack Championship at Eenrum. Mika Meijer (born 5 April 2001) is a motorcycle speedway and Long track motorcycle racing, long track rider from the Netherlands. Career Meijer came to prominence when he reached the U19 final of the 2017 Individual Speedway Junior European Championship. In 2020, he competed for the 'Young Europe' team during the 2020 Team Speedway Junior European Championship final. Meijer has concentrated on Long track racing in recent years and finished 11th in the 2022 Individual Long Track World Championship and competed in the 2023 Individual Long Track World Championship. Dave Meijerink (born 23 March 2000) is a long track rider, grasstrack racer and motorcycle speedway from the Netherlands. Career Meijerink was beginning to impress in the Netherlands during 2017 but came to prominence when he reached the finals of both the 2018 Team Long Track World Championship and the 2018 Individual Long Track World Championship. He finished just outside the medal placings in the former, finishing in fourth place. He repeated the fourth-place finish in the 2022 Team Long Track World Championship.
