2023 Copa Uruguay
The 2023 Copa Uruguay (officially known as Copa AUF Uruguay 2023), was the second edition of the Copa Uruguay, the country's national football cup tournament. The tournament began on 21 August 2023 and had 80 teams participating. It was originally scheduled to end on 10 December 2023, but the tournament was paused at the round of 16 and resumed on 5 February 2024 due to a players strike in Uruguayan football, with the final match eventually moved to 22 May 2024. The defending champions Defensor Sporting won their second title in the competition, defeating Montevideo City Torque in the final on penalty kicks following a 2–2 draw after 90 minutes. The Copa Uruguay (officially Copa AUF Uruguay) is a knockout football competition in men's domestic Uruguayan football, starting in 2022. The competition starts in June, with the winner of the cup qualifying for the following year's Supercopa Uruguaya, starting from the 2023 edition. History Historically, Uruguayan football never had a national cup tournament, aside from a competition called ''Torneo de Copa'', which happened only in 1969. In 2018, teams started to mobilize in favour of the creation of a national cup, but nothing came of it. On 20 April 2022, the Uruguayan Football Association announced the creation of the ''Copa AUF Uruguay'', being approved by several clubs involved. Founded in 1932, the club's home stadium is Jardines del Hipódromo, which has a capacity of 18,000. History Danubio was founded by the Bulgarian-born brothers Mihail (Miguel) and Ivan (Juan) Lazaroff on 1 March 1932 together with other youths from the "Republica de Nicaragua" school in Montevideo. 2023 Uruguayan Primera División Season
The 2023 Liga Profesional de Primera División season, also known as the Campeonato Uruguayo de Primera División 2023, is the 120th season of the Uruguayan Primera División, Uruguay's top-flight football league, and the 93rd in which it is professional. The season, which was named "100 años del Club Atlético Cerro", began on 4 February and is scheduled to end in December 2023. Nacional are the defending champions.
