2023 Challenge Trophy
The 2023 Challenge Trophy (, part of the Toyota National Championships for sponsorship reasons) was the 99th edition of the Challenge Trophy, an annual cup competition contested by amateur teams in men's Canadian soccer. Ten teams participated in the tournament, which took place in Halifax, Nova Scotia from 4–9 October 2023. The West Ottawa Warriors won the Challenge Trophy on their debut, defeating host team Western Halifax FC 1–0 in the final. Teams Teams were seeded on the basis of their Provincial/Territorial Associations team's final standing in the previous year's championship. Teams Each of Canada Soccer's thirteen provincial and territorial associations can send one representative to the Challenge Trophy, with teams generally qualifying through a regional preliminary series such as an open cup or league competition. West Ottawa SC
West Ottawa Soccer Club was a Canadian women's semi-professional soccer club based in Kanata, Ontario, just west of Ottawa that competed in the women's division League1 Ontario. The club continues to operate as a youth club. History The club was founded in 2010 as a youth soccer club when local clubs Goulbourn Soccer Club and Kanata Soccer Club decided to merge to form the West Ottawa Soccer Club. The club joined the women's division of League1 Ontario for the 2017 season becoming the first team in the league from Ottawa. They played their first match against Vaughan Azzurri losing 2-1. They left the league following the 2018 season. The Edmonton Scottish Soccer Club, better known as Edmonton Scottish, is a Canadian semi-professional Soccer in Canada, soccer club based in Edmonton, Alberta. The FC Winnipeg Lions (formerly known as Sons of Italy Lions Soccer Club), formed in 1995, is a Canadian soccer club that competes in the Manitoba Major Soccer League. It was held in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan from October 4–8, 2018. Teams Ten teams were granted entry into the competition; one from each Canadian province. Teams are selected by their provincial soccer associations; most often qualifying by winning provincial leagues or cup championships such as the Ontario Cup. Group stage The ten teams in the competition are divided into two groups of five teams each, which then play a single-game round-robin format. At the end of the group stage, each team faces the equal-ranked team from the other group to determine a final seeding for the tournament. The 2016 Challenge Trophy is the national championship for men's soccer clubs competing at division 4 and below in the Canadian soccer pyramid. It was held in St. John's, Newfoundland from October 5–10, 2016. Teams Twelve teams were granted entry into the competition; one from each Canadian province. In addition, as the host province, Newfoundland and Labrador was granted a second entry into the competition, while Alberta was also granted a second entry after the withdrawal of the Northwest Territories.
