2016 Challenge Trophy
The 2016 Challenge Trophy is the national championship for men's soccer clubs competing at division 4 and below in the Canadian soccer pyramid. It will be held in St. John's, Newfoundland from October 5–10, 2016. Teams Twelve teams were granted entry into the competition; one from each Canadian province. In addition, as the host province, Newfoundland and Labrador was granted a second entry into the competition, while Alberta was also granted a second entry after the withdrawal of the Northwest Territories. Teams are selected by their provincial soccer associations; most often qualifying by winning provincial leagues or cup championships such as the Ontario Cup. Venues King George V Park in St. John's will serve as the tournament's main venue, with Topsail Field in Conception Bay South and the Mount Pearl Soccer Complex in Mount Pearl serving as secondary venues. Challenge Trophy
The Challenge Trophy (french: Trophée Challenge) is a national amateur soccer cup in Canada contested by the champions of individual provincial soccer competitions. It is one of the oldest soccer competitions in Canada, being held since 1913. It is run by the Canadian Soccer Association. History An unofficial Dominion championship for a trophy donated by The People newspaper of London, named the Peoples Shield, was contested from 1906–1912. Teams from all provinces did not enter the competition in each year, and it was contested by Western Canada in its last years. On May 24, 1912, the Amateur Athletic Union met in Toronto to determine a competition to crown a Canadian national champion. FC Winnipeg Lions
The FC Winnipeg Lions (formerly known as Sons of Italy Lions Soccer Club), formed in 1995, is a Canadian soccer club that competes in the Manitoba Major Soccer League. History Founded in 1995 as Sons of Italy Lions, the club officially changed their name in 2012. The Lions have won numerous league titles, trophies and cup tournaments. Kenny Caceros
Kenneth "Kenny" Caceros (born April 6, 1988) is a Canadian soccer player who plays for Gloucester Celtic. Early life Caceros was born in Ottawa to a Guatemalan father. He played for the Ottawa Fury's Super Y-League club as a teenager, earning a scholarship to Syracuse University. He played for the Orange for four years before returning to Ottawa to play for the Fury's PDL club, where he played three seasons. Club career Caceros began his professional career with Capital City F.C., based in his hometown of Ottawa, in their inaugural season in the Canadian Soccer League. He played a key role in a team that included many of his former Ottawa Fury youth teammates, and helped the club to a 3rd-place league finish and a trip to the playoff final. Easton Ongaro (born June 5, 1998) is a Canadian professional soccer player who plays as a forward for Pacific FC in the Canadian Premier League. Feildians Athletic Association
The Feildians Athletic Association, commonly referred to as Feildians, is an athletic club in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Clubs participate in a wide range of athletics including soccer, basketball, baseball and hockey. Historically, the club also participated in track and field, cricket and even bowling. The Old Feildian Athletic Association was officially formed in April 1899 as the Feildian Club with the election of the Hon. Edgar Bowring as president. Newfoundland And Labrador Challenge Cup
The Newfoundland and Labrador Challenge Cup, known as the Johnson Insurance Challenge Cup for sponsorship reasons, is the premier senior men's soccer league in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Tony Nocita (born 9 November 1963 in Winnipeg) is a former professional Canadian soccer player who currently plays for Sons of Italy Lions SC. He has been inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 2003. The Winnipeg Fury's 1992 Mita Cup winning team will be inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.
