2023 Big Machine Music City Grand Prix
The 2023 Big Machine Music City Grand Prix was the thirteenth round of the 2023 IndyCar season. The race was held on August 6, 2023, in Nashville, Tennessee at the Nashville Street Circuit. The eleventh edition of INDYCAR in Nashville consisted of 80 laps and was won by Kyle Kirkwood. The race was accompanied by the Wesley Mortgage Freedom Friday Tribute Concert, on Friday, August 4, featuring Brian Kelley (from Florida Georgia Line), Chris Janson, Vince Neil (from Mötley Crüe), Gavin DeGraw, Sixwire, and others. Concerts by Frank Ray, Dillon Carmichael, and Flo Rida were also announced. On Sunday, August 6, Jay DeMarcus, Jason Crabb, and others performed, presented by Red Street Records. On February 14, 2024, it was announced because of construction issues with the new Tennessee Titans stadium and the Broadway region issues with closing streets for the race, the Nashville Street Circuit race will be discontinued. The Music City Grand Prix, known as the Big Machine Music City Grand Prix for sponsorship reasons, is an IndyCar Series race held at the Nashville Street Circuit in Nashville, Tennessee. History Background On September 16, 2020, the IndyCar Series announced the addition of the Music City Grand Prix as a street circuit race in downtown Nashville for its 2021 schedule. This announcement came after three years of discussion between Nashville sports and tourism officials and IndyCar executives, which had previously resulted in three failed proposals for a race in Nashville. Gavin Shane DeGraw (born February 4, 1977) is an American singer-songwriter. DeGraw rose to fame with his song " I Don't Want to Be" from his debut album ''Chariot'' (2003); the song became the main theme song for The WB drama series ''One Tree Hill''. Patricio "Pato" O'Ward Junco (born 6 May 1999) is a Mexican professional auto racing driver who competes full-time in the IndyCar Series, driving the No. 5 Chevrolet for Arrow McLaren SP. Josef Nicolai Newgarden (born December 22, 1990) is an American race car driver who competes in the IndyCar Series full-time for Team Penske. He is the 2017 and 2019 IndyCar Series Champion and 2011 Indy Lights champion. Career Karting Newgarden's first race vehicle was a motorized scooter purchased at a skate shop in Hendersonville, Tennessee. In 2001, Newgarden competed in events across the country. Nashville Superspeedway is a motor racing complex located in Gladeville, Tennessee, United States (though the track has a Lebanon postal address), about southeast of Nashville. The track was built in 2001 and is currently hosting the Ally 400, a NASCAR Cup Series regular season event, the Tennessee Lottery 250, and the Rackley Roofing 200. It is a concrete oval track 1 miles (2.145 km) long. Nashville Superspeedway is owned by Speedway Motorsports, which acquired the track’s previous owner Dover Motorsports in December 2021.
