2022–23 Namibia Premier Football League
The 2022–23 Namibia Premier Football League was the first season of the Namibia Premiership, the top-tier football league in Namibia which replaced the Namibia Premier League, and the first full season of top-tier football in the country following the COVID-19 pandemic. The Namibia Premier League was dissolved after the 2018/19 season and there was no top flight football in the country until Debmarine Namibia sponsored the league for N$13 million. The league started in November 2022 with African Stars playing Unam FC in the first match. African Stars won the championship with several rounds still to play and qualified for the CAF Champions League. The Namibia Premiership, or the Debmarine Namibia Premiership for sponsorship reasons, is the highest level of domestic association football in Namibia. It operates under the auspices of the Namibia Football Association. History After ongoing financial and organizational problems with the Namibia Premier League (NPL), the Namibia Football Association expelled the league and founded a new top-flight league themselves following the 2018–19 season. Despite a planned debut season in 2021, the league finally played its first season in 2022-23 after securing major sponsorship funding. Gobabis (, ) is a town in eastern Namibia. It is the regional capital of the Omaheke Region, and the district capital of the Gobabis electoral constituency. Gobabis is in the heart of the cattle farming area. It had a population of 33,418 people in 2023. Walvis Bay
Walvis Bay (; ; ) is a city in Namibia and the name of the bay on which it lies. It is the List of cities in Namibia, second largest city in Namibia and the largest coastal city in the country. The city covers an area of of land. The bay is a haven for sea vessels due to its natural deep-water harbour, protected by the Pelican Point sand spit, which is the only natural harbour of any size along the country's coast. Being rich in plankton and marine life, these waters also draw large numbers of southern right whales, attracting whalers and fishing vessels. A succession of colonists developed the location and resources of this strategic harbour settlement. The harbour's value about the sea route around the Cape of Good Hope had caught the attention of world powers since it was discovered by the outside world in 1485. Okahandja United FC is a Namibian association football club based in Okahandja. The club currently competes in the Namibia Premier Football League, the top level of football in Namibia. History In 2018, under its original name of Okahandja Military School FC, the club defeated African Motto FC from Oshakati in the playoffs to be promoted to the Namibia Premier League. In mid-September 2018, the club was purchased by former Namibian international Johannes Hindjou and given its current name. Okahandja is a city of 45,159 inhabitants in Otjozondjupa Region, central Namibia, and the district capital of the Okahandja electoral constituency. It is known as the ''Garden Town of Namibia''. It is located 70 km north of Windhoek on the B1 road. It was founded around 1800, by two local groups, the Herero and the Nama.
