2022–23 Cape Town Tigers Season
The 2022–23 season of the Cape Town Tigers was the 3rd season of the South African basketball team. The Tigers played in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) for a second straight season, following their win in the Road to BAL's East Division. In the 2023 BAL season, the Tigers were coached by former New York Knicks assistant coach Rasheed Hazzard. They were eliminated in the quarter-finals by Stade Malien, their second consecutive year in which they were eliminated in this round. Domestically, the Tigers were coached by Florsheim Ngwenya and made their debut in the Basketball National League (BNL), South Africa's sole professional league. They went undefeated and won the semifinal and final by wide margins to be crowned South African champions for the third time. Cape Town Tigers
The Cape Town Tigers are a South African professional basketball team founded in Cape Town. The Tigers have played in the Basketball National League (BNL) and played in three seasons of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) between 2022 and 2024. Established in 2019, the Tigers are based in Gugulethu, and have won the South African national championship three times, and qualified for the BAL through the Road to BAL three times. History The Cape Town Tigers (Pty) Ltd. was founded in 2019 by U.S.-based holding company Severus LLC. The Tigers' first roster featured American import players Davon Dillard, Shaq McFarlan and Nigerian import Austin Ajukwa. Evans Ganapamo (born 19 August 1994) is a French-Central African professional basketball player for the Nairobi City Thunder of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). He played college basketball at the University of New Orleans and Prairie View A&M University. Internationally, Ganapamo represents the Central African Republic national team. Early life and college career Ganapamo was born in France to Central African parents and moved to the United States at age 12 where his father was working as a doctor. Kenya Ports Authority (basketball)
Kenya Ports Authority, commonly known as KPA, is a basketball club based in Mombasa, Kenya. Owned by the Kenya Ports Authority corporation, the team is nicknamed the "Dockers", and is the most decorated team in basketball as it has won a record nine KBF Premier League championships. The team plays its home games in the KPA Makande Gymnasium. KPA made its debut in international competition during the 2002 FIBA Africa Clubs Champions Cup, and lost its six games in the competition. Rueben Abuchi Chinyelu (born 30 September 2003) is a Nigerian basketball player who plays for the Florida Gators, and for the Nigeria national team. He previously played for the Washington State Cougars. He plays as center and is a graduate of the NBA Academy Africa. Early life and career Born in Enugu Agidi, a village in Anambra State, Chinyelu picked up basketball in 2018 in Lagos when he joined Raptors Basketball Academy. He later joined the NBA Academy Africa in Saly, Senegal. Under the academy's agreement with the Basketball Africa League (BAL), he played in the 2022 season with Ferroviário da Beira, and in the 2023 season with Stade Malien. Thierry Serge Darlan (born 3 February 2004) is a Central African professional basketball player for the Delaware Blue Coats of the NBA G League. A graduate of the NBA Academy Africa in Senegal, Darlan also plays for the Central African Republic national team.
