2022 World Pool Masters
The 2022 World Pool Masters was a nine-ball pool tournament which took place in Gibraltar from 5–8 May 2022. It was the 28th edition of the World Pool Masters invitational tournament organised by Matchroom Pool. Format The event was played as a single elimination tournament, with players competing in a preliminary round based on rankings. The tournament prize fund was the same as of the last edition, with a total prize fund of $100,000. The total prize money awarded is listed below: Main draw The following table denotes the event's draw and results. Numbers to the left of a player's names indicates their seeding, whilst bolding indicates the winner of a match. Chang Yu-Lung and Omar Al-Shaheen withdrew on May 2 due to travel issues and were replaced by Mario He and Mika Immonen. Europa Point Sports Complex
Europa Sports Park is a multi-purpose stadium in Gibraltar; it was previously a Ministry of Defence cricket pitch. David Alcaide Bermúdez (born 14 December 1978) is a Spanish pool player. He is a two-time winner of the World Pool Masters, winning the 2017 event, defeating Jayson Shaw 8–7 in the final, and again in 2019 defeating Alexander Kazakis 9–8. Alcaide is a three-time world championship semi-finalist having reached the stage at the WPA World 10-ball Championship, in 2009 and 2015, and the WPA World Eight-ball Championship in 2011. Alcaide has also represented Europe at the Mosconi Cup three times in 2006, 2017 and 2021. At the 2006 event, he was the first Spanish player to compete in the competition. In addition to pool, Alcaide also plays snooker, having competed at the 2019 Gibraltar Open professional snooker event. Alexander Kazakis (Born July 16, 1991) is a Greece, Greek professional pool (billiards), pool player. Kazakis is a former European 10-ball champion, and regular 9-ball player. In 2018, he was the number one ranked player by the World Pool-Billiard Association. Career In 2016, Kazakis won the Kremlin Cup (pool), Kremlin Cup, without losing a game. Kazakis reached the semi-final of the 2018 WPA World Nine-ball Championship; before losing to eventual winner Joshua Filler on a final frame decider. Niels Feijen (born 3 February 1977, The Hague) is a Dutch professional pool player, from the Hague. His nickname is "the Terminator". In 2014 he won the WPA World 9-ball championship. Francisco Sánchez Ruíz (born December 29, 1991 in Murcia, Spain) is a Spanish professional pool player and the reigning World champion in both eight-ball and nine-ball. Career Sánchez won the World Nine-ball Junior Championship in 2010, defeating Jesse Engel 11–6 in the final.
