2022 Taiwan Football Premier League
The 2022 season of the Taiwan Football Premier League is the sixth season of the top-flight association football competition in Taiwan under its current format. The season began on 17 April 2022. Teams The 2022 season of the TFPL was initially planned to feature eight teams, but CPC Corporation F.C. , CPC Corporation withdrew from it. They had finished sixth in the 2021 Taiwan Football Premier League , 2021 season , so they were granted permission to continue in the top-flight, but they declined it by withdrawing from the league system during the 2022 season. Tainan City F.C. , Tainan City are the defending champions, having won the 2021 Taiwan Football Premier League , 2021 season title . The Taiwan Football Premier League (TFPL; ) is the top-ranked Taiwanese football league run by the Chinese Taipei Football Association (CTFA). History The Taiwan Football Premier League was founded in 2017 after the folding of the then highest-ranked National First Division Football League (Intercity Football League). During the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, it was one of the few football leagues in the world to begin and proceed without disruption, due to the relatively light situation in Taiwan compared to most other countries. Competition format The Taiwan Football Premier League's schedule usually runs from April to November. It contains 8 teams that compete in a series of three round-robin tournaments, each composed of seven games. After the 21 game schedule is complete, the top team wins the league title and an automatic berth in the following year's AFC Challenge League. Vom Ca-nhum (; born 1965) is a Taiwanese football manager and former professional footballer. Early life Vom was born to a Taiwanese father and an East Timorese mother. Managerial career In 2019, Vom was appointed manager of Shanxi Metropolis, becoming the first Taiwanese manager to coach a Chinese team. In February 2020, Vom was appointed as Chinese Taipei head coach, having been one of only a small number of coaches on the island with an AFC Pro A coaching license. In July 2020, Vom succeeded Toshiaki Imai as manager of Taiwan Football Premier League team Taichung Futuro. On 13 May 2023, Rangers director Philip Lee announced that Vom would be the head coach of the club for 2023–24 AFC Champions League matches in order to fulfil AFC License requirements. Taichung (, Wade–Giles: '), officially Taichung City, is a special municipality in central Taiwan. Taichung is Taiwan's second-largest city, with more than 2.85 million residents, making it the largest city in Central Taiwan.
