2022 Formula Regional European Championship
The 2022 Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine is a multi-event, Formula Regional open-wheel single seater motor racing championship held across Europe. The championship features a mix of professional and amateur drivers, competing in Formula Regional cars that conform to the FIA Formula Regional regulations for the championship. This is the fourth season of the championship and the second after a merger with Formula Renault Eurocup which resulted to the change of the engine supplier to Alpine. The season commenced on 22 April at Autodromo Nazionale Monza and will conclude on 23 October at Mugello Circuit, after ten rounds. Formula Regional European Championship
The Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA) is a FIA-certified regional European Formula 3 racing series. On 12 October 2018 it was announced that the Italian autosport regulator Automobile Club d’Italia (ACI) and karting promoter WSK would organize the inaugural year of the championship in 2019. Their bid was chosen over Renault Sport's bid with the same chassis, who attracted fewer votes from Single-Seater Commission members. Following the 2020 season, the Formula Renault Eurocup merged with the Formula Regional European Championship to become the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine. The championship's first season featured eight rounds on the circuits across Europe with half of them in Italy. The driver champions receive FIA Super License points. Leonardo Fornaroli
Leonardo Fornaroli (born 3 December 2004) is an Italian racing driver who is set to compete in the 2023 FIA Formula 3 Championship for Trident. He is the 2022 Formula Regional European rookie champion. Career Karting Fornaroli began karting competitively in his native Italy around the age of ten, first winning the Mini Academy class of the Championkart championship in 2016 before moving up to X30 Junior the following year. He came runner-up in the 2017 X30 Challenge Italy, in a season that also included entry to international IAME events, but found more success in 2018, when he was third in the Italian Karting Championship and made his full-time European debut in the WSK Super Master Series. Nicolás Baptiste
Nicolás Baptiste Velasco (born 31 October 2005) is a Colombian racing driver set to compete in the 2024 USF Pro 2000 Championship for BN Racing. He previously competed in the 2022 Formula Regional European Championship for FA Racing. Career Karting Baptiste debuted in karting at the age of nine and started karting competitively two years later in 2016. His highest ranking in a karting competition would be eighth in the Colombia Rotax Max Challenge. He took part in the European Championship in 2020, ending up 60th in the standings. Victor Bernier
Victor Bernier (born 26 June 2004) is a French racing driver who currently drives in the Formula Regional European Championship with FA Racing. Career Karting Bernier began karting competitively in 2013, and won a number of national championships before becoming the Junior Karting World Champion in 2018, ahead of Gabriele Minì and Gabriel Bortoleto. He received a Volant d'Or award from the French Federation of Automobile Sport as a reward for his karting exploits. Francesco Braschi (born 27 November 2004), is an Italian racing driver competing in the 2022 Formula Regional European Championship for KIC Motorsport. Career Italian F4 Championship 2020 After several tests, Braschi made his car racing debut in the 2020 Italian F4 Championship with Jenzer Motorsport from Round 4, alongside Santiago Ramos. Esteban Masson (born 18 September 2004) is a Canadian-French racing driver who is the 2021 French F4 champion and currently drives for Campos Racing in the 2023 Eurocup-3 season. He previously competed in the Formula Regional European Championship. Career Karting Having been born in Canada, Masson discovered karting at the age of three. MP Motorsport (previously Marcel Peters Motorsport) is a Dutch auto racing team currently competing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship. Owen Tangavelou (born 4 March 2005) is a Vietnamese-French racing driver who most recently competed in the Formula Regional European Championship with Trident, having previously raced with Race Performance Motorsport. Career Karting Tangavelou started his career at the relatively late age of fourteen in France. He raced in several regional competitions before stepping up to Formula 4. Matías Zagazeta (born 8 September 2003) is a Peruvian racing driver who races in the Formula Regional European Championship with R-ace GP. He is the 2021 F4 British Championship runner-up. Axel Gnos (born 30 April 2003) is a Swiss-French racing driver of Vietnamese descent, who drives for G4 Racing in the Formula Regional European Championship. Career Lower formulae Gnos made his car racing debut in the 2018 Italian F4 Championship with AS Motorsport, where he raced in two rounds. In 2019 he drove in both the Italian and Spanish F4 championships, for Jenzer Motorsport and G4 Racing respectively. Nicola Marinangeli (born 14 May 2003) is an Italian racing driver who is currently driving in the Formula Regional Asian Championship for Evans GP. Career Lower formulae 2018 Born in Foligno, Marinangeli started his career in 2018 in the Italian F4 Championship for DR Formula. He drove in the final event at Mugello and scored a best finish of 22nd. 2019 Following that the Italian signed for Xcel Motorsport to drive in the 2019 F4 UAE Championship. However, Marinangeli finished last in the standings, with 37 points and being one of only three drivers not to score a podium throughout the season.
