2021 NCHC Tournament
The 2021 NCHC Tournament was the eighth tournament in league history. Typically the tournament is scheduled across two separate weekends in mid-march with quarterfinal games hosted on campus locations, while the final four games are played at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota. However, on February 8, 2021, NCHC announced that the tournament would be played entirely in Grand Forks. By winning the tournament, North Dakota earned NCHC's automatic bid to the 2021 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Tournament. Format Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, changes to the traditional tournament format were made for this season. All games will be single-elimination as opposed to a best-of-three games quarterfinals, and no third-place game will occur. All eight conference teams participate in the tournament. 2020–21 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Season
The 2020–21 NCAA Division I men's ice hockey season began on November 14, 2020 and concluded with the Frozen Four on April 10, 2021. Due to the cancellation of the previous year's tournament due to COVID-19 pandemic, this was the 73rd season in which an NCAA ice hockey championship was held, and was US college hockey's 127th year overall. Due to concerns related to the pandemic, the start of the season was delayed until what would have normally been the 8th week of play. Despite having to contend with contend with cancellations and delays due to the pandemic, the season was completed. Massachusetts won their first National Championship, ending the 4-year run of NCHC teams. Brandon Bussi is an American professional ice hockey goaltender currently playing for the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League (AHL) as a prospect for the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL). Ryan Fanti (born October 3, 1999) is a Canadian ice hockey goaltender for the Bakersfield Condors of the AHL as a prospect for the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League (NHL). He played college ice hockey for Minnesota Duluth. Playing career Collegiate Fanti began his collegiate career for Minnesota Duluth during the 2019–20 season, however, he did not appear in any games. Nicklaus Perbix (born June 15, 1998) is an American professional ice hockey defenseman currently playing with the Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was a member of United States national team at the 2022 Winter Olympics.
