2021 CrossFit Games
The 2021 CrossFit Games was the 15th edition of the CrossFit Games held from July 27 to August 1, 2021. Justin Medeiros won the men's competition, Tia-Clair Toomey the women's, and CrossFit Mayhem the team's. The qualification process for the Games is similar to that used before it was changed for the previous two seasons, but with the introduction of quarterfinals between the Open and the semifinal, and a last-chance qualifier. The Affiliate Cup returned as the team competition with Games qualification based on gym affiliation and a new Parasports, adaptive athlete division was introduced this season. This is the first season sponsored by NoBull after the Reebok sponsorship ended in 2020. The total prize purse increased to $2.5 million with the individual winners each receiving $310,000. Alliant Energy Center
Alliant Energy Center (formerly Dane County Coliseum) is a multi-building complex located in unincorporated Madison, Wisconsin. It comprises of greenspace and includes the Exhibition Hall, the 10,000-seat Veterans Memorial Coliseum, the Willow Island and the Arena. After completing various stages of planning throughout 2013, it was announced on November 26 that Dane County would be awarding a $20.7 million contract to Miron Construction for the construction of two new multi-use pavilions at the Alliant Energy Center. The exhibition pavilions, which total 290,000 square feet, will be replacing the nine current agricultural barns. Construction began following the Midwest Horse Fair in April 2014 with completion set in time for the 2014 World Dairy Expo in late September. 2009 CrossFit Games
The 2009 CrossFit Games were the third annual CrossFit Games held on July 10–12, 2009 at a ranch in Aromas, California. The men's competition, with a field of 74 competitors, was won by Mikko Salo. The women's, with a field of 72, was won by Tanya Wagner. The team competition by Northwest CrossFit. Qualification events called the Regionals were introduced this year to cope with the increasing number of athletes who wanted to participate in the Games. 150 athletes qualified for the individual events, while nearly 100 teams participated in the Affiliate Cup which required no qualification. The Affiliate Cup became an official team competition this year with its own separate team-based events. CrossFit
CrossFit is a branded fitness regimen that involves constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity. Meldonium
Meldonium (INN; trade name Mildronate, among others) is a limited-market pharmaceutical, developed in 1970 by Ivars Kalviņš at the USSR Latvia Institute of Organic Synthesis, and now manufactured by the Latvian pharmaceutical company Grindeks and several generic manufacturers. It is primarily distributed in Eastern European countries as an anti-ischemia medication. Since 1 January 2016, it has been on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) list of substances banned from use by athletes. Meldonium can be used as a metabolic modulator, changing how some hormones accelerate or slow down enzymatic reactions in the body. Laura Horváth
Laura Horváth is a Hungarian professional CrossFit athlete. She won the 2023 CrossFit Games, earning the title "the fittest woman on earth". She has also won two silver medals in 2018 and 2021, and a bronze in 2022. Horvath has a background in the sport of climbing, but later switched to CrossFit. She qualified for her first CrossFit Games in 2018, coming second at the Games and was named Rookie of the Year. After two years outside the top 10, she again came second in 2021 and then third in 2022, before winning the title in 2023. Anníe Mist Þórisdóttir
Anníe Mist Þórisdóttir (often featured as Annie Thorisdottir in international media) is a professional CrossFit athlete from Reykjavík, Iceland. She is the co-owner of Crossfit Reykjavik, where she also coaches and trains. Anníe is the first woman to win the CrossFit Games twice (in 2011 and 2012). She placed second in the 2010 and 2014 CrossFit Games. She did not compete in 2013 due to injury, and dropped out of the 2015 CrossFit Games early due to heat stroke. Ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction, colloquially known as Tommy John surgery (TJS), is a surgical graft procedure where the ulnar collateral ligament in the medial elbow is replaced with either a tendon from elsewhere in the patient's body, or with one from a deceased donor. Snatch (weightlifting)
The snatch is the first of two lifts contested in the sport of weightlifting (also known as Olympic weightlifting) followed by the clean and jerk. The objective of the snatch is to lift the barbell from the ground to overhead in one continuous motion. There are four main styles of snatch used: snatch (or full snatch), split snatch, power snatch, and muscle snatch. The full lift is the most common style used in competition, while power snatches and muscle snatches are mostly used for training purposes, and split snatches are rarely used. Brent Fikowski
Brent Fikowski is a Canadian CrossFit athlete known for his six appearances at the CrossFit Games. He finished second behind Mat Fraser at the 2017 Crossfit Games, and third in 2021. He serves as president of the Professional Fitness Athlete's Association. Early life Brent Fikowski grew up in the city of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. He competed in various sports, most notably swimming and volleyball. He swam competitively from the age of 6 to 18. He studied at G.S. Lakie Middle School, and Lethbridge Collegiate Institute. Patrick Vellner
Patrick Vellner is a Canadian CrossFit athlete who has seven individual appearances at the CrossFit Games, including three 2nd and two 3rd place finishes. Early life Vellner was born in Red Deer in Alberta, Canada to Marty and Tikki Vellner. He has two brothers, Jonathan and Mitchell. Vellner competed in gymnastics and lacrosse from the age of eight, and he also played rugby.
