2009 CrossFit Games
The 2009 CrossFit Games were the third annual CrossFit Games held on July 10–12, 2009 at a ranch in Aromas, California. The men's competition, with a field of 74 competitors, was won by Mikko Salo. The women's, with a field of 72, was won by Tanya Wagner. The team competition by Northwest CrossFit. Qualification events called the Regionals were introduced this year to cope with the increasing number of athletes who wanted to participate in the Games. 150 athletes qualified for the individual events, while nearly 100 teams participated in the Affiliate Cup which required no qualification. The Affiliate Cup became an official team competition this year with its own separate team-based events. Cuts in the number of athletes in the Games were introduced this year to reduce the field during the course of the competition. Each winner of the individual competitions received a prize of $5,000. Aromas, California
Aromas (Spanish for "Perfumes") is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Monterey County and San Benito County, California, United States. The population was 2,708 at the 2020 census. The CDP straddles the border of the two counties, with Monterey County to the west and San Benito County to the east. The Santa Cruz County line is less than a mile to the northwest, and Santa Clara County is about to the north. Its population was almost equally distributed between the two counties with 1,358 in Monterey County and 1,292 in San Benito County; this was down from a population of 2,797 during the 2000 census (1,427 in Monterey County and 1,370 in San Benito County). Lunge (exercise)
A lunge can refer to any position of the human body where one leg is positioned forward with knee bent and foot flat on the ground while the other leg is positioned behind. It is used by athletes in cross-training for sports, by weight-trainers as a fitness exercise, and by practitioners of yoga as part of an asana regimen. In contrast to the split squat exercise, during the lunge the rear leg is also activated. Push Press
A push press is a weight training exercise for the anterior head of the deltoid (shoulder). Execution The push press is similar to the military press, in that the bar is held just above chest height and is pushed upwards before being lowered back down again; however, the movement is started by a 'push' from the legs. This begins the momentum of the movement and helps with the lifting of the weight overhead. The bar is then slowly lowered back to the chest and the legs are slightly bent again ready to being the next repetition. Alternatively, if the weight is so heavy that lowering it would be potentially unsafe, then it can be dropped from the overhead position onto surrounding padded flooring. The muscle-up (also known as a muscleup) is an advanced strength training exercise, within the domain of calisthenics. It is a combination routine of a radial pull-up followed by a dip.
