2020–21 Sparta Rotterdam Season
The 2020–21 season was Sparta Rotterdam's 133rd season in existence and the club's second consecutive season in the top flight of Dutch football. In addition to the domestic league, Sparta Rotterdam participated in this season's edition of the KNVB Cup. The season covered the period from 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2021. Sparta Rotterdam () is a Dutch professional football club based in Rotterdam. Established on 1 April 1888, Sparta Rotterdam is the oldest professional football team in the Netherlands. Sparta currently competes in the Eredivisie, the top flight of Dutch professional football, which they have won six times, having earned promotion from the Eerste Divisie in 2018–19. The club is one of three professional football clubs from Rotterdam, the others being Excelsior (est. 1902) and Feyenoord (est. 1908). History Origins On the Easter Sunday of 1 April 1888, eight students from Rotterdam founded a cricket club called Rotterdamsche Cricket & Football Club Sparta. It was established in the garden of the house of the first treasurer, Hartevelt Hoos Oostvestple, a building located on the 11 in Rotterdam. Aaron Meijers
Aaron Meijers (born 28 October 1987) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as a left back for club RKC Waalwijk. He formerly played for FC Volendam, ADO Den Haag, and Sparta Rotterdam. Club career Meijers was born in Delft. Aged six he moved to Andijk, where he started playing for AVV Andijk (now Sporting Andijk). In 2000 Meijers joined FC Volendam. After four years in the first team of FC Volendam he moved to RKC Waalwijk. With both FC Volendam and RKC Waalwijk Meijers won the Eerste Divisie. In 2012 Meijers went to ADO Den Haag. For the 2020–21 season, he was loaned to Sparta Rotterdam. After returning to ADO Den Haag and beginning the 2021–22 season there, on 30 August 2021 he returned to Sparta on a permanent basis. In the summer of 2023, Meijers returned to RKC Waalwijk on a one-season deal. Bryan Smeets
Bryan George Jeffrey Smeets (born 22 November 1992) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for club MVV. Club career He formerly played for MVV Maastricht, De Graafschap and SC Cambuur. He is best known the myth of Bryan scoring the equalizer against Ajax in 2016, which dramatically decided the winner of the Eredivisie title to be PSV Eindhoven. Sven Mijnans
Sven Mijnans (born 9 March 2000) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for club AZ. Club career Mijnans played in the academy of VV Spijkenisse. After experiences at Sparta Rotterdam and Feyenoord, he joined the academy of ADO Den Haag aged 16. However, he returned to VV Spijkenisse a year later. Laros Michael D'Encarnação Duarte (born 28 February 1997) is a professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Hungarian club Puskás Akadémia. Deroy D'Encarnação Duarte (born 4 July 1999) is a professional football player who plays as a midfielder for Bulgarian First League club Ludogorets Razgrad.
