2019 W Series
The 2019 W Series was the inaugural motor racing season of the W Series (championship), W Series, an List of female racing drivers, all-female Formula Regional-level racing series. Calendar A single championship race was held at six rounds of the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, with an additional non-championship race at TT Circuit Assen to test different event formats. Driver selection 55 drivers were initially entered in a qualifying longlist for the 2019 season, with a further six added later on. W Series (championship)
W Series was an all-female single-seater racing championship. It was held over a total of three seasons in 2019, 2021 and 2022 before the championship fell into administration and later liquidated, with a planned season in 2020 cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All three editions were won by Jamie Chadwick. Caitlin Wood (born 15 January 1997 in Maitland, New South Wales) is a racing driver from Australia. She last competed in the Indian Racing League, and previously competed in the W Series. Biography Hailing from Tenambit in the New South Wales Hunter Valley, Wood began her professional motorsport career in 2013 in a state-level Formula Ford championship. She ended her debut in car racing 5th out of 7 in the championship. She subsequently moved up to the inaugural Australian Formula Ford Championship in 2015, however she struggled to 21st in the championship with only three points finishes. The Australian Formula 4 Championship would become the new national feeder series in Australia, and Wood contested a three-event part-time schedule – eventually finishing 13th in the championship before setting her sights on Europe. FIA Institute Young Driver Excellence Academy
The FIA Institute Young Driver Excellence Academy was a programme founded by the FIA Institute for Motor Sport Safety and Sustainability to develop young driver talent worldwide. In its first year (2011) the Institute selected 12 drivers to take part in the programme. 19 drivers were shortlisted for a three-day selection event, which took place on 6–8 February 2011 in Melk, Austria. For 2012, the FIA shortlisted 30 young drivers, of whom 18 were selected for the second year of the programme. In 2013, selection events were held across five continents with the winners from each event joining five chosen wildcards to form a ten driver academy. Alexander Georg Wurz (; born 15 February 1974) is an Austrian former racing driver, motorsport executive and businessman, who competed in Formula One between and . In endurance racing, Wurz is a two-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in and with Joest and Peugeot, respectively. Amongst several test driver roles, Wurz competed at 69 Grands Prix across six seasons with Benetton, McLaren, and Williams; he achieved three podiums. Melk
Melk (; older spelling: ) is a city in the Austrian state of Lower Austria, next to the Wachau valley along the Danube. Melk has a population of 5,257 (as of 2012). It is best known as the site of a massive baroque Benedictine monastery named Melk Abbey. The town is first mentioned as in 831 in a donation of Louis the German; the name is from a Slavic word for 'border.' The area around Melk was given to Leopold I, Margrave of Austria, in the year 976 to serve as a buffer between the Magyars to east and Bavaria to the west.
