2019 Sun Bowl
The 2019 Sun Bowl was a college football bowl game played on December 31, 2019, with kickoff at 2:00 p.m. EST (12:00 p.m. local MST) on CBS. It was the 86th edition of the Sun Bowl, and was one of the 2019–20 bowl games concluding the 2019 FBS football season. Sponsored by Kellogg's Frosted Flakes breakfast cereal, the game was officially known as the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl, after its mascot, Tony the Tiger. Teams The game was played between the Arizona State Sun Devils from the Pac-12 Conference and the Florida State Seminoles from Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). This was the fifth overall meeting and second postseason meeting between the programs; Florida State entered the game leading the all-time series, 3–1. The Sun Bowl is an outdoor American football, football stadium in the Southwestern United States, on the campus of the University of Texas at El Paso. In North America, a bowl game, or simply bowl, is one of a number of postseason college football games primarily played by NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) teams. For most of its history, the FBS did not use a playoff tournament to determine an annual national champion, instead relying on a vote by sportswriters or coaches. The 1971 Fiesta Bowl was the inaugural edition of the college football bowl game, played at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona, on Monday, December 27. Part of the 1971–72 bowl game season, it featured the eighth-ranked Arizona State Sun Devils of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) and the independent Florida State Seminoles. Tony the Tiger is the advertising cartoon anthropomorphic tiger mascot for Frosted Flakes (also known as Frosties) breakfast cereal, appearing on its packaging and advertising. The 2019–20 NCAA football games were a series of college football bowl games played to complete the 2019 NCAA Division I FBS football season.
