2019 NBBF President Cup
The 2019 NBBF Nigerian Premier League was the national championship for Nigerian basketball organised by the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF). The draw was held on 11 November 2019. All game were played at the National Stadium in Lagos. The winners of the President Cup qualify for the 2020 BAL season, 2020 Basketball Africa League (BAL), the newly established pan-African league by FIBA and the NBA. Rivers Hoopers won its third Nigerian championship. League stage The league stage was played in a round-robin format. The Atlantic Conference was played from October 12, to October 2022, in the Indoor Sports Hall of the Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria. The Savannah Conference was played in the Indoor Sports Hall in Lagos. The top four teams advance to the Final 8. Nigerian Premier League (basketball)
The Nigerian Premier Basketball League, often abbreviated to the NPL, is the pre-eminent men's professional basketball List of professional sports leagues, league in Nigeria. The league consists of sixteen teams who are categorized into two conferences based on the geographical location. These conferences are Savannah and the Atlantic. The league was sponsored by the DSTV until 2017, who had both title and TV rights through the contract agreement. The league was then referred to as the DSTV Premier Basketball League. Format The league usually spans from March till mid year. Each team plays a total of 14 games in a regular season after which the top four teams qualify for the Final Eight Playoffs which usually takes place at the National Stadium Surulere Lagos. The team at the bottom of the table in each conference is relegated from the league. Lagos Islanders
The Lagos Islanders are a Nigerian basketball club based in Lagos, founded in 1984. The franchise was co-owned by the late music artist Sound Sultan since 2014. They play their home games at the Rowe Park Sports Centre in the Yaba area. In 2016, the Islanders played in the private African Basketball League (ABL). Because the Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF) did not recognise this league, they were suspended from domestic leagues. The ban was lifted in 2019. Raptors Basketball Academy, better known as Raptors, is a Nigerian basketball team based in Lagos. It plays in the Nigerian Premier League. The team was founded in 2001 by coach Charles Ibeziakor as Spiders. In 2006, he changed the name to Raptors as a reference to the Toronto Raptors. In the 2019 season, the Raptors made their debut in the Premier League. In its debut season, Raptors reached the final of the 2019 NBBF President Cup after beating Niger Potters in the semifinals.
