2019 D.C. United Season
The 2019 D.C. United season was D.C. United's 24th season of existence, and their 24th in Major League Soccer, the top flight of American soccer. The campaign was the club's first full season playing in Audi Field. Previously, United spent 2018 split between the Maryland SoccerPlex, Navy–Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, and Audi Field. United finished the season in an upper-mid table position, finishing in 5th place out of 12 in the Eastern Conference, and 10th place out of 24 across the entire league. Outside of MLS, United competed in the 2019 U.S. Open Cup, where they were eliminated in the fifth round, and the 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs, where they were eliminated in the first round. 2019 Major League Soccer Season
The 2019 Major League Soccer season was the 24th season of Major League Soccer. The regular season began on March 2, 2019 and ended on October 6. The MLS Cup Playoffs began on October 19 and concluded with MLS Cup 2019 on November 10, under a new format that included 14 teams and consisted only of single-match rounds. FC Cincinnati joined the league as an expansion franchise, bringing the total number of clubs to 24. Minnesota United FC opened their first soccer-specific stadium, Allianz Field, on April 13. Atlanta United FC were the defending MLS Cup champions, while New York Red Bulls were the defending Supporters' Shield winners. Ian Harkes
Ian Andrew Harkes (born March 30, 1995) is an American soccer player who plays for Scottish club Dundee United. He previously played for D.C. United in Major League Soccer. Harkes is a recipient of the MAC Hermann Trophy, which is awarded to the best college soccer player in the United States. He is the son of John Harkes, who captained the U.S. national soccer team during the 1990s. Early career High school and academy Harkes played high school soccer at Gonzaga College High School in Washington, D.C., and for the youth academy of D.C. United. While in D.C. Akeem Ward
Akeem O'Connor-Ward (born January 5, 1996) is an American soccer player who plays as a defender for Memphis 901 in the USL Championship. Career Ward was selected 14th overall by D.C. United in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft, and he signed a professional contract with the club on January 31, 2019. “We had him rated as the best right back in the draft,” said United GM Dave Kasper. “We liked everything about him." 2019 MLS SuperDraft
The 2019 MLS SuperDraft was the twentieth SuperDraft conducted by Major League Soccer. The SuperDraft is typically held in conjunction with the annual January United Soccer Coaches convention, which in 2019 was held in Chicago, Illinois. The first two rounds of the 2019 SuperDraft were held on January 11, 2019. Rounds three and four were held via conference call on January 14, 2019. David Ousted Hansen (born 1 February 1985) is a retired Danish footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He played with SønderjyskE and Randers in the Danish Superliga, before moving to the Major League Soccer in 2013 where he went on to represent Vancouver Whitecaps, D.C. United and Chicago Fire. Travis Worra (born April 9, 1993) is an American retired professional soccer player. He played for D.C. United and Richmond Kickers during his professional career and appeared at the semi-professional level with Seacoast United Phantoms and Carolina RailHawks U-23's. Youth and college Worra led Hempfield High School to the PIAA Class AAA State title in 2010.
