2018 Vancouver Whitecaps FC Season
The 2018 Vancouver Whitecaps FC season is the club's eighth season in Major League Soccer, the top division of soccer in the United States and Canada. Including previous iterations of the franchise, this is 41st season of professional soccer being played in Vancouver under a variation of the "Whitecaps" name. Outside of MLS, the Whitecaps played in the 2018 Canadian Championship. They defeated the Montreal Impact 2–1 on aggregate in the semifinals before falling 7–4 on aggregate to Toronto FC in the finals. On September 25, with five games remaining in the season the Whitecaps released manager Carl Robinson along with assistant coaches Martyn Pert, Gordon Forrest and goalkeeper coach Stewart Kerr. Vancouver Whitecaps Football Club is a Canadian professional soccer team based in Vancouver. They compete in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member club of the league's Western Conference. The MLS iteration of the club was established on March 18, 2009, and began play in 2011 as the 17th team to enter Major League Soccer while replacing the USSF Division 2 team of the same name in the city, making them a phoenix club and the third to carry the Whitecaps name. The club has been owned and managed by the same group since their USSF days. In the 2012 season, the team became the first Canadian team to qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs. Sean Melvin
Sean Melvin (born July 9, 1994) is a Canadian professional soccer player who plays as a goalkeeper for Atlético Ottawa. Early life Melvin was born and raised in Victoria, British Columbia to parents from Vancouver. At the age of five, he began playing soccer with Gordon Head SA. Melvin played for three seasons with the UNC Wilmington Seahawks from 2013 to 2015. While at UNC Wilmington, Melvin played in 2013–2014 with the Vancouver Whitecaps FC U-23 side in the Premier Development League, starting a total of seven games. Whitecaps FC 2 is a professional soccer team based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada that serves as the reserve team of the Vancouver Whitecaps FC of Major League Soccer. Spencer McNair Richey (born May 30, 1992) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a goalkeeper for Major League Soccer club Chicago Fire. Career College and amateur Richey spent his entire college career at the University of Washington. He made a total of 71 appearances for the Huskies and finished with 30 clean sheets. Brian Rowe
Brian Michael Rowe (born November 16, 1988) is a former American soccer goalkeeper. Youth soccer Rowe went to South Eugene High School, where he was voted best defensive player in 2005 and MVP in 2006. He also was first team all-district in 2005 and 2006. Rowe played college soccer at UCLA from 2007 to 2011. During the 2010 and 2011 seasons, he started all 44 games that the club played and kept 20 clean sheets in that time. He finished his UCLA career with a 37–8–5 record. In 2011, he was named a NSCAA Second-team All-American. Stefan Tone Marinovic ( hr, Stefan Tone Marinović, ) is a New Zealand professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for the New Zealand national team. Club career Marinovic attended Auckland private school, Kings College. In 2005, he won the New Zealand Nike Cup. Stewart Kerr
James Stewart Robert Kerr (born 13 November 1974) is a Scottish former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper for Celtic, Swindon Town, Brighton and Wigan Athletic. Kerr was forced into early retirement at the age of 27 due to a back injury.
