2018 Speedway Grand Prix Qualification
The 2018 Individual Speedway World Championship Grand Prix Qualification was a series of motorcycle speedway meetings that were used to determine the three riders that qualified for the 2018 Speedway Grand Prix. The series consisted of four qualifying rounds at Esbjerg, Žarnovica, Lonigo and Abensberg, two semi-finals at Olching and Terenzano and the Grand Prix Challenge at Tolyatti, Togliatti. The three riders that qualified were Przemysław Pawlicki, Artem Laguta and Craig Cook. Speedway Grand Prix Qualification
The Speedway Grand Prix Challenge or Speedway Grand Prix Qualification is an annual Motorcycle speedway, speedway qualifying tournament to determine the qualifiers for the Speedway Grand Prix, which is the World Championship of speedway. History From 1995 the List of Individual Speedway World Championship medalists, Individual World Championship was replaced by the Grand Prix system. The 17 qualifiers for the 1995 Grand Prix were the top 10 from the 1994 Individual Speedway World Championship, 1994 World final, 5 seeds and 2 wildcards. From 1996, the leading riders from each Grand Prix series would automatically qualifying for the following year's event. The remaining places would be filled by the leading riders in the Challenge event and qualifiers from the both the Continental Speedway Final and Intercontinental Final. Christopher Calvin Harris (born 28 November 1982) from Truro, Cornwall, nicknamed ''Bomber'', is a Great Britain international speedway rider for the Leicester Lions and Glasgow Tigers in the United Kingdom. Career history Early career Harris began his racing career at the age of six and a half by competing in grasstrack events. His talent quickly became apparent when he began to win all of the junior age groups in the South-West area. Tero Kalevi Aarnio (born 17 April 1984) is a Finnish motorcycle speedway rider. Career Aarnio was a member of Finland team at 2007 Speedway World Cup. This led to his signing for Berwick Bandits for the 2008 and 2009 seasons. He then joined Scunthorpe Scorpions in 2010 and 2011 and Workington Comets in 2012 and 2013 He then spent the 2014 and 2015 seasons with Glasgow and Newcastle respectively, the 2016 season with Scunthorpe and returned to Newcastle in 2018. Jacob Thorssell (born 24 July 1993) is a motorcycle speedway rider from Sweden. He is a two times Swedish national champion. Career Thorssell joined Wolverhampton Wolves in the Elite League for the 2012 season, as a replacement for Pontus Aspgren who had picked up an injury. After impressing at Wolves, Thorssell was announced in the permanent line-up for the 2013 season. After continuing to impress in 2013 and also in 2014 Thorssell made the step up to being one of Wolverhampton's three heat leaders for the 2015 season, and was the first rider to be announced in their team. Rasmus Jensen is a Danish motorcycle speedway rider. He is currently riding for Holsted Tigers in the Danish Speedway League and Gdańsk in the Polish Ekstraliga. Timo Lahti (born 16 July 1992) is a speedway rider from Finland. Career Lahti started his British career riding for the Eastbourne Eagles in 2011. He became the national champion of Finland after winning the Finnish Individual Speedway Championship in 2012. After a total of four seasons at Eastbourne he left after the 2014 season. He won a further five national championships from 2015 to 2019 consecutively before being deposed by Tero Aarnio. Before the 2017 win he had returned to British speedway by riding in the top tier for the Poole Pirates in the SGB Premiership 2017.
