2018 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour
The 2018 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour was the thirty-fourth season of the Whelen Modified Tour (WMT), a stock car racing tour sanctioned by NASCAR. It began with the Performance Plus 150 presented by Safety-Kleen at Myrtle Beach Speedway on 17 March and concluded with the Sunoco World Series 150 at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park on 14 October. Doug Coby entered the season as the defending Drivers' champion. 2018 marked the second season of the unification of the Whelen (Northern) Modified Tour and the Whelen Southern Modified Tour. Justin Bonsignore won the championship, 97 points ahead of Chase Dowling. Drivers Schedule On 22 November 2017, NASCAR announced the 2018 schedule. Charlotte Motor Speedway, Charlotte was dropped from the schedule. The All-Star Shootout did not count towards the championship. Whelen Modified Tour
The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour (NWMT) (previously the NASCAR Winston Modified Tour and NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series from 1985 until 2005) is a modified stock car racing series owned and operated by NASCAR in the Modified Division. The Modified Division is NASCAR's oldest division, and is the only open-wheeled division that NASCAR sanctions. NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour events are mainly held in the northeastern United States, but the 2007 and 2008 tours expanded to the Midwest with the addition of a race in Mansfield, Ohio. The tour races primarily on short oval paved tracks, but the NWMT also has made appearances at larger ovals and road courses. Rowan Pennink
Rowan Pennink (born September 3, 1985) is an American former professional stock car racing driver who last competed part-time in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. Pennink was a long-time competitor of the series, having made his debut in 2007, won three races and one pole position between 2010 and 2018. Pennink was the 2013 Modified Racing Series championship and also won two track championships in the SK Modified division at Stafford Speedway in 2015 & 2016. Kenneth Heagy (born June 13, 1967) is an American professional stock car racing driver who competes full-time in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, driving the No. 18 for Christopher Fleming. His home track is Riverhead Raceway, where he has eight career wins in the modified division. Timmy Solomito (born December 3, 1991) is an American professional stock car racing driver who last competed part-time in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, driving the No. 58 for Edgar Goodale. He is the younger brother of fellow driver Shawn Solomito, who also competed in the Modified Tour. Thomas S. Baldwin Jr. (born October 27, 1966) is an American team majority owner of Tommy Baldwin Racing and Competition Director of Rick Ware Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series. His father, Tom Baldwin, was a champion modified driver. Baldwin himself briefly pursued a racing career before becoming a mechanic. Patrick W. Emerling (born September 19, 1992) is an American professional stock car racing driver and team owner.
