2018 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships
The 2018 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships were the 39th edition of the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships. The event took place from 25 to 30 September 2018 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil under the auspices of International Canoe Federation (ICF). The competitions were held at the Deodoro Olympic Whitewater Stadium which had also hosted the canoe slalom events of the 2016 Summer Olympics. Brazil hosted the event for the third time after the 1997 championships in Três Coroas and the 2007 championships in Foz do Iguaçu. It was the first World Championships not to feature the discontinued men's C2 event. Russia and Argentina won their first medals at the Canoe Slalom World Championships. Deodoro Olympic Whitewater Stadium
The Deodoro Olympic Whitewater Stadium is a whitewater paddling venue, constructed to host the whitewater slalom, canoeing and kayaking slalom events for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The stadium is part of the 'X-Park' sport complex (which includes BMX and Mountain Bike) located in Deodoro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Luka Božič
Luka Božič (born 9 January 1991) is a Slovenian slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2006. He started out as a C2 paddler partnering Sašo Taljat in the boat until the C2 event was discontinued in 2017. Since 2013 he has been competing internationally in C1. He won seven medals at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships with two golds (C2: 2014, C1 team: 2022), a silver (C1 team: 2018) and four bronzes (C1: 2019, C2: 2009, C1 team: 2014, 2015). He also won 11 medals (4 golds, 4 silvers and 3 bronzes) at the European Championships. Božič won the overall world cup title in the C1 class in 2023, becoming the first Slovenian to do so in single canoe. Dariusz Bogusław "Darek" Popiela (born 27 July 1985) is a Polish slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 1999. He represented Austria until 2002. Career Popiela won five medals in the K1 team event at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships with two silvers (2013, 2018) and three bronzes (2006, 2019, 2023). Joseph Clarke (born 3 November 1992) is a British Canoe slalom, slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2009, specializing in the K1 (kayak) and KX1 (extreme kayak/kayak cross) events. Jiří Prskavec (; born 18 May 1993) is a Czech slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2008, specializing in the K1 discipline. In 2023 he also started competing in C1.
