2018 East Java Earthquake
On 11 October 2018, an earthquake struck off the coast of East Java, Indonesia, with the epicentre located off the coast of Situbondo Regency. The earthquake, which struck at dawn, killing four people in addition to destroying or damaging hundreds of houses, mostly on the small island of Sapudi. Earthquake The earthquake occurred at 18:44:55 UTC (01:44:55 WIB), with a magnitude of 6.0, at 9 km depth and epicenter location of (USGS) or 6.3, 12 km depth and epicenter at ( BMKG). The epicenter was located underwater, around 60 km northeast of the town of Situbondo. Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency reported 12 aftershocks, the strongest one occurring at 02:22 local time with a of 3.5. Soekarwo (born 16 June 1950), popularly known as Pakde Karwo or Uncle Karwo, is an Indonesian politician and former governor of East Java. In 2019, he was one of nine advisors appointed to President Joko Widodo's Presidential Advisory Council. Jember Regency
Jember Regency is a regency of East Java province, Indonesia. The population was 2,332,726 at the 2010 census and 2,536,729 at the 2020 Census. Its administrative capital is the urban area of Jember, which with 359,184 inhabitants in 2020 is the third largest urban area in East Java province (after Surabaya and Malang) but does not have municipality or city status as it is split between three separate districts.
