2016–17 Liga EBA Season
The 2016–17 Liga EBA season was the 23rd edition of the Liga EBA. This is the fourth division of Spanish basketball. Four teams will be promoted to LEB Plata. The regular season started in September 2016 and will ended in March 2017. The Final Stage to LEB Plata was played in April 2017. Format Regular season Teams are divided in five groups by geographical criteria. Groups A, C and D are divided in two. *Group A–A: Asturias, Galicia and Castile and León *Group A–B: Basque Country, Cantabria, Castile and León and Navarre *Group B: Community of Madrid, Castile-La Mancha and Canary Islands. *Groups C–A: Aragon, Catalonia and Balearic Islands. *Groups C–B: Catalonia and Balearic Islands. *Group D–A: Andalusia and Melilla. *Group D–B: Andalusia and Extremadura. *Group E: Valencian Community and Region of Murcia. Club Baloncesto Ciudad de Ponferrada, also known as Cat&Rest Clínica Ponferrada CDP by sponsorship reasons, is a professional basketball team based in Ponferrada, Castilla y León that currently plays in LEB Plata. History CB Ciudad de Ponferrada was founded in 2002 with the aim to replace the former team JT, that ceased in activity. Baloncesto Villa De Mieres 2012
Baloncesto Villa de Mieres 2012, also known as BVM2012, is a basketball team based in Mieres, Asturias, Spain, that currently plays in Primera División de Baloncesto. History Baloncesto Villa de Mieres was founded on January 2, 2012 with local support with the aim to recover the basketball experience in the municipality. In its first season, it only competed with junior and youth teams. The men's senior team started its way in the 2013–14 season, competing in the Asturian group of Primera División, after achieving a vacant berth in the league. BVM became the champion of the Regional group after winning all the twenty games it played, including the Final of the competition by 85–73 to Grupo Covadonga, and qualified to the promotion playoffs to Liga EBA. Club Ourense Baloncesto, S.A.D., more commonly referred to today by its sponsorship name of Río Ourense Termal, is a professional basketball team based in Ourense, Spain. The team currently plays in league LEB Oro. History Founded in 1978 as Club Bosco-Salesianos, the club achieved its first success promoting to Segunda División in 1984. Two years later, Ourense advances to Primera División B, the second tier, where it plays three seasons before promoting to Liga ACB in 1989 as champion of the league. In the top league, COB plays during nine seasons alternating title and relegation playoffs in its first years. The Primera División de Baloncesto is the fifth level in the Spanish basketball league system. Current format The Primera División works similar to the Tercera División of Spanish football. Club Baloncesto Tizona S.A.D., more commonly known as UBU Tizona by sponsorship reasons, is a professional basketball team based in Burgos, Castilla y León and plays in the Polideportivo El Plantío. The team currently plays in LEB Plata. History The club started in 2013 as the successor of CB Atapuerca, dissolved after failing to promote to Liga ACB, due to not fulfilling all the requirements. The name is a homage to former ''CB Espada Tizona'', the main club in Burgos during the 1970s and the 1980s, and was created as a Sociedad Anónima Deportiva with the aim to make easier a future promotion to ACB, goal achieved in its first season. Club Basket Burgos 2002, also known by sponsorship reasons as Grupo de Automoción Santiago, was a basketball team based in Burgos, Castile and Lion, Spain, who currently plays in Liga EBA. History Basket Burgos 2002 was founded in that year with the aim of playing in the Provincial League of Burgos, that works independently of the Spanish league system. On 2010, after being relegated CD Juventud del Círculo from Liga EBA to 1ª División, some players and the coach of the team decided to create a Primera División team of Basket Burgos 2002. Agrupación de Baloncesto Pas, also known as Pas Piélagos, is a basketball team based in Renedo de Piélagos, Cantabria, Spain, who currently plays in Liga EBA. History AB Pas was founded in 1979 in Castañeda, Cantabria. In the 1983–84 season, Pas becomes runner-up of 1ª Autonómica League and promotes to the lowest national leagues. Agrupación Deportiva Cantbasket 04, also known as Cantbasket, is a basketball team based in Santander, Cantabria, Spain, who currently plays in Liga EBA. History AD Cantbasket 04, registered in the Sports Entities Registry of the Government of Cantabria, was founded in 2004 by two co-founders who began as basketball coaches at Colegio Altamira, located in Revilla, Camargo. Step by step, Cantbasket was growing thanks to agreement with different schools of the city of Santander.
