2016 VCU Rams Baseball Team
The 2016 VCU Rams baseball team is the program's 46th season fielding a varsity baseball program, and their fourth season the Atlantic 10 Conference. Led by Shawn Stiffler for his third season, the Rams had their most successful baseball season in program history. The Rams advanced to the NCAA Super Regional for the first time ever, and won their first ever Atlantic 10 Conference baseball tournament. It was the program's return to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2010. Shawn Stiffler
Shawn Stiffler (born April 2, 1979) is an American baseball coach and former pitcher, now serving as head coach of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He played college baseball for the George Mason Patriots from 1998 to 2001 for head coach Bill Brown. Stiffler had been a part of the Rams baseball program since 2007, where he spent the first 5 seasons as an assistant to Paul Keyes. Playing career Stiffler played high school baseball from 1994–1997 at Somerset Area High School, in Somerset, Pennsylvania where he earned All-American honors as a pitcher. He was drafted in the 53rd round by the Minnesota Twins in the 1997 MLB Draft, but elected instead to continue his baseball career at the collegiate level, joining the George Mason Patriots baseball team. History Rose Bowl Field The original stadium was built in 1930, using the payoff from the football team's participation in the 1929 Rose Bowl. The Wagner Seahawks baseball team is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of Wagner College in Staten Island, New York, United States. The team has been a member of the Northeast Conference, which is part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I, since 1987. Wagner College's first baseball team was first fielded in 1945. The Seahawks are coached by Craig Noto. The Seahawks have won one Northeast Conference baseball tournament and one Northeast Conference regular season championship, in 2000 and 2009 respectively. The Old Dominion Monarchs baseball team is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, United States. The team is a member of the Sun Belt Conference, which is part of NCAA Division I. Old Dominion's first baseball team was fielded in 1931 as the William and Mary College – Norfolk Division Braves. ODU joined Division I in 1977. The team plays its home games at Bud Metheny Baseball Complex in Norfolk, Virginia where it has played since 1982. Farmville is a town in Prince Edward and Cumberland counties in the U.S. state of Virginia. The population was 8,216 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Prince Edward County. Charles "Buddy" Bolding Stadium is a baseball venue in Farmville, Virginia, United States. It is home to the Longwood Lancers baseball team, a member of the Big South Conference. Opened in 1994, the venue has a capacity of 500. It is named for Buddy Bolding, who was the first head coach of the Lancers' baseball team, who served for 35 seasons from 1978 until his retirement after the 2013 season. The Longwood Lancers baseball team represents Longwood University, which is located in Farmville, Virginia. The Lancers are an NCAA Division I college baseball program that competes in the Big South Conference. They began competing in Division I in 2005 and joined the Big South Conference in 2013 after 8 seasons as an independent. The Longwood Lancers play all home games on campus at Buddy Bolding Stadium.
