2016 Georgian Cup
The 2016 Georgian Cup (also known as the ''David Kipiani Cup'') is the twenty season overall and the twenty-seven since independence of the Georgian annual football tournament. The competition began on 15 August and finished on 22 November 2016. The defending champions are Dinamo Tbilisi, after winning their twelve Georgian Cup last season. The winner of the competition qualified for the first qualifying round of the 2017–18 UEFA Europa League. Preliminary round The matches were held on 15 August 2016. First round The matches were held on 23 and 24 August 2016. Second round The matches were held on 21 September 2016. Quarterfinals The matches were held on 19 October 2016. Semifinals The matches were held on 2 November 2016. FC Dinamo Tbilisi
FC Dinamo Tbilisi ( ka, დინამო თბილისი, ) is a Georgian professional football club based in Tbilisi that competes in the Erovnuli Liga, the top flight of Georgian football. Dinamo Tbilisi was one of the most prominent clubs in Soviet football and a major contender in the Soviet Top League almost immediately after it was established in 1936. The club was then part of one of the leading sport societies in the Soviet Union, the All-Union Dynamo sports society which had several other divisions besides football and was sponsored by the Soviet Ministry of Internal Affairs. Its main claim to European fame was winning the Cup Winners' Cup in 1981, beating FC Carl Zeiss Jena of East Germany 2–1 in the final in Düsseldorf. It remains the only club based in Georgia to have ever lifted a trophy in European competition. Vani ( ka, ვანი ) is a town in Imereti region of a western Georgia (country), Georgia, at the Sulori river (a tributary of the Rioni river), 41 km southwest from the regional capital Kutaisi. FC Dinamo Batumi ( ka, საფეხბურთო კლუბი დინამო ბათუმი) is a Georgian professional football club based in Batumi, Adjara that competes in the Erovnuli Liga, the top division of the national football system. The club won the champion's title in 2021 and 2023, the Georgian Cup in 1997–98, and two Georgian Super Cups, in 1997–98 and 2022. In 1990, they changed their name to ''FC Batumi'', only to reverse the decision in 1994. Dinamo play their home matches at Batumi Stadium. Tskaltubo
Tskaltubo or Tsqaltubo ( ka, წყალტუბო ) is a spa resort in west-central Georgia. It is the main town of the Tsqaltubo Municipality of the Imereti province. It is known for its radon-carbonate mineral springs, whose natural temperature of enables the water to be used without preliminary heating. The resort's focus is on balneotherapy for circulatory, nervous, musculo-skeletal, gynaecological and skin diseases, but since the 1970s its repertoire has included " speleotherapy", in which the cool dust-free environment of local caves is said to benefit pulmonary diseases. Tskaltubo was especially popular in the Soviet era, attracting around 125,000 visitors a year. Bathhouse 9 features a frieze of Stalin, and visitors can see the private pool where he bathed on his visits. FC Gardabani ( ka, სკ გარდაბანი) is a Georgian association football club from the city of Gardabani. Within less than a decade since joining Georgian football, Gardabani have had different years from the lowest division to the 2nd tier. They currently compete in Liga 3, the third tier of the national football system. History Gardabani were established in 2015 as a municipal club. They won the regional league tournament in the very first season. Promoted to Liga 3, Gardabani took the 1st place amid a tight competition with Mtskheta and Tskhumi. Chiatura
Chiatura ( ) is a city in the Imereti region of Western Georgia. In 1989, it had a population of about 30,000. The city is known for its system of cable cars connecting the city's center to the mining settlements on the surrounding hills. The city is located inland, in a mountain valley on the banks of the Qvirila River. Geography and history In 1879 the Georgian poet Akaki Tsereteli explored the area in search of manganese and iron ores, discovering deposits in the area.
