2016 Canadian Figure Skating Championships
The 2016 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships were held January 18–24, 2016 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Organized by Skate Canada and sponsored by Canadian Tire, the event determined the national champions of Canada. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, women's singles, pair skating, and ice dancing on the senior, junior, and novice levels. Although the official International Skating Union terminology for female skaters in the singles category is ''ladies'', Skate Canada uses ''women'' officially. The results of this competition were among the selection criteria for the 2016 World Championships, 2016 Four Continents Championships, and the 2016 World Junior Championships. Halifax was named as the host in May 2015. Competitors qualified at the Skate Canada Challenge, held in December 2015, or earned a bye. International Skating Union
The International Skating Union (ISU) is the international sport governing body, governing body for competitive ice skating disciplines, including figure skating, synchronized skating, speed skating, and short track speed skating. It was founded in Scheveningen, Netherlands, in July 1892, making it one of the oldest international sport federations. The ISU was formed to establish standardized international rules and regulations for the skating disciplines it governs, and to organize international competitions in these disciplines. Paul Poirier (; born November 6, 1991) is a Canadian Ice dancing, ice dancer. With Piper Gilles, he is a four-time World Figure Skating Championships, World medalist, a two-time Four Continents Figure Skating Championships, Four Continents champion (2024 Four Continents Figure Skating Championships, 2024–2025 Four Continents Figure Skating Championships, 25), and the 2022–23 Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final, 2022–23 Grand Prix Final champion. Piper Gilles (; born January 16, 1992) is an American-Canadian Ice dancing, ice dancer. Dylan David Moscovitch (born 23 September 1984) is a retired Canadian pair skater. He competed with Liubov Ilyushechkina from 2014 to 2018. Liubov Ivanovna Ilyushechkina (, born 5 November 1991) is a Russian-born Canadian pair skater. Ilyushechkina began competing for Canada with Dylan Moscovitch in 2014, and they were the 2017 Four Continents Figure Skating Championships, 2017 Four Continents bronze medalists, two-time bronze medalists on the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating, Grand Prix series, and three-time Canadian Figure Skating Championships, Canadian national medalists (silver in 2015 and 2017, bronze in 2016).
