2016 Birmingham Bowl
The 2016 Birmingham Bowl was a college football bowl game played on December 29, 2016 at Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama in the United States. The eleventh annual Birmingham Bowl featured the South Florida Bulls from the American Athletic Conference against the South Carolina Gamecocks from the Southeastern Conference. Legion Field
Legion Field is an outdoor stadium in the southeastern United States in Birmingham, Alabama, primarily designed to be used as a venue for American football, but occasionally used for other large outdoor events. Opened in 1927, it is named in honor of the American Legion, a U.S. organization of military veterans. The stadium served as the primary venue for Alabama Crimson Tide home games until the late 1990s and was for many years the site of the annual Iron Bowl rivalry game against Auburn. The UAB football team played at Legion Field from their inception in 1991 through the 2020 season. It has also hosted teams from various professional football leagues. Since the removal of its east-side upper deck in 2005, Legion Field has a seating capacity of approximately 71,594. In North America, a bowl game, or simply bowl, is one of a number of postseason college football games primarily played by NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) teams. For most of its history, the FBS did not use a playoff tournament to determine an annual national champion, instead relying on a vote by sportswriters or coaches. D'Ernest Johnson Jr. (born February 27, 1996) is an American professional football running back who last played for the Jacksonville Jaguars of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at South Florida. Early life Johnson attended and played high school football at Immokalee High School. Tyshun Raequan "Deebo" Samuel Sr. (born January 15, 1996) is an American professional football wide receiver for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL). Jacob Lane Bentley (born November 23, 1997) is an American football coach and former player who is currently the head coach at Nation Ford High School in Fort Mill, South Carolina. Hayden Randle Hurst (born August 24, 1993) is an American professional football tight end. He played college football for the South Carolina Gamecocks and was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft. The 2016–17 NCAA football bowl games were a series of college football bowl games which completed the 2016 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The games began on December 17, 2016, and aside from the all-star games ended with the 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship which was played on January 9, 2017. 2016 South Carolina Gamecocks Football Team
The 2016 South Carolina Gamecocks football team represented the University of South Carolina in the 2016 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Gamecocks played their home games at Williams–Brice Stadium in Columbia, South Carolina and competed in the East Division of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The Gamecocks' first-year head coach was Will Muschamp, with Kurt Roper as offensive coordinator and Travaris Robinson as defensive coordinator.
