2014 World's Strongest Man
The 2014 World's Strongest Man was the 37th edition of World's Strongest Man. The event was held at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles, California, the same host city as the 2012 World's Strongest Man contest. The qualifying heats were held from March 22–25 and the finals on March 28 & 29. Unlike previous years when 10 athletes qualified for the finals, this year there were 12 qualifying spots. The top 2 from each heat qualified, as well as the 2 highest scoring 3rd place athletes from all 5 heats. The event was sponsored by the Commerce Casino and will begin broadcasting in the United States on the CBS Sports Network from July 4-August 13, 2014. All-American Strongman Challenge
The All-American Strongman Challenge is a leading competition in strength athletics that takes place within the annual Californian FitExpo. Although North America has a number of prestigious strongman events determining the "Strongest Man in America", the "Strongest Man in Canada" and the "Strongest Man in North America", the All-American Strongman Challenge has added kudos because it is open to entrants from overseas with the potential to bring in leading international competitors as well. Eddie Hall (strongman)
Edward Stephen Hall (born 15 January 1988) is an English media personality, actor, boxer, and former strongman. He won the World's Strongest Man 2017 competition. Hall has also won national competitions such as UK's Strongest Man, Britain's Strongest Man, and England's Strongest Man multiple times. Early life Edward Stephen Hall was born in Newcastle-under-Lyme on 15 January 1988. As a teenager, he was a successful competitive swimmer. He attended Clayton Hall Academy, but was expelled at the age of 15. Soon afterwards, he began homeschooling. In 2008, he began working as a car mechanic in Market Drayton. He competed as a bodybuilder and entered the strongman circuit, having done a strongman competition at the Iceman gym in Stoke-on-Trent. International Powerlifting Federation
The International Powerlifting Federation is an international governing body for the sport of powerlifting as recognized by the General Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF). The IPF was founded in 1972, and comprises member federations from more than one hundred countries with new ones being added yearly. The current IPF president is Gaston Parage, from Luxembourg. The first president of the federation was Robert Christ. The IPF is the largest powerlifting federation in the world. The Fortissimus is a defunct event in strength athletics. The name means "the mightiest" and was a multi-event challenge at the end of which the winner is crowned as the "Strongest Man on Earth". Strongman Champions League
The Strongman Champions League is a strongman competition circuit, with several Grand Prix events throughout the year and the Strongman Champions League overall champion title going to the overall winner at the end of the season. Žydrūnas Savickas
Žydrūnas Savickas (; born July 15, 1975) is a Lithuanian powerlifter and professional strongman. Due to his multiple championship wins in all major international strongman competitions, as well as his longevity in the sport, he is widely considered by many to be the greatest strength athlete of all time. Career Žydrūnas Savickas first became interested in strength sports after watching a Lithuanian strongman contest on TV in 1989. Mike Burke (born June 14, 1974) is an American professional strongman competitor from Aurora, Colorado. Mike won the 2012 All-American Strongman Challenge in January 2012. This victory qualified him for the 2012 Arnold Strongman Classic and he finished in 5th place. Burke placed third at the Giants Live event in Melbourne, Australia on March 17, 2012.
