2014 SaskTel Tankard
The 2014 SaskTel Tankard, the provincial men's curling championship for Saskatchewan, was held from January 29 to February 2 at the Crescent Point Wickenheiser Centre in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, Shaunavon. The winning Steve Laycock team represented Saskatchewan at the 2014 Tim Hortons Brier in Kamloops. Shaunavon, Saskatchewan
Shaunavon ( ) is a town in southwest Saskatchewan. At the junction of Saskatchewan Highway 37, Highways 37 and Saskatchewan Highway 13, 13, it is 110 kilometres from Swift Current, 163 kilometres from the Alberta border, and 74 kilometres from the Montana border. Shaunavon was established in 1913 along the Canadian Pacific Railway line. The town has several nicknames including Bone Creek Basin, Boomtown, and Oasis of the Prairies. The latter name is derived from the park located in the centre of town. The Shaunavon Formation, a stratigraphical unit of the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin is named for the town. The Caledonian Curling Club, also known as the Callie, is a curling club located in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Established in 1915, the club is among the oldest in the province and has been the home of many championship teams, including the Sandra Schmirler rink, which won three provincial, national, and world championships in the 1990s and the gold medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics. Brennen Ray Jones (born April 25, 1987) is a Canadian curler from Regina, Saskatchewan. He is a two-time provincial junior champion. In 2006, playing third for Mitch Heidt, Jones won his first provincial junior championship qualifying him for the 2006 Canadian Junior Curling Championships. Saskatchewan missed the playoffs, finishing with a 7–5 round robin record. In 2008, Jones skipped his own team to his second provincial junior championship. His Saskatchewan rink finished the round robin at the 2008 Canadian Junior Curling Championships with a 9–3 record. This put him in a tie-breaker against Ontario (skipped by Travis Fanset) which he lost. Troy Robinson is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 2000s. He played for South Sydney in the NRL competition. Playing career Robinson began his playing career with the Wests Tigers and played in the lower grades for the club until he was signed by South Sydney for the 2003 NRL season. Robinson made his first grade debut for South Sydney in round 18 2003 against Penrith at Penrith Park. The following week, he played at halfback in the club's loss against Parramatta at the Sydney Football Stadium. This would turn out to be Robinson's final game in the top grade. Randy Bryden (born January 20, 1970) is a Canadian curler from Regina, Saskatchewan. He is a former Canadian Mixed champion, and is the current Canadian Senior men's champion skip. As a junior curler, Bryden skipped teams to three-straight provincial championships. At the 1987 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, he led a team of Dean Klippenstine, Craig Fiske and Jamie Mathieson to a 6–5 record. At the 1988 Canadian Juniors, he led Klippenstine, Fiske and Rick Stack to an 8–3 round robin record, and lost to British Columbia's Mike Wood rink in the semifinal. At the 1989 Juniors, he led a new team of Troy Robinson, Troy Riche and Mark Zacharias to a 7–4 record, losing to Ontario's David Allan in a tiebreaker. The Highland Curling Club is a curling club located in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. It is one of two clubs in the city, along with the Caledonian Curling Club. History The club was founded in 1954 as the Imperial Curling Club, with three natural ice sheets, with a focus on access for students at Imperial School. In 1958, the club switched to artificial ice. In 1970, the club renamed itself the Highland Curling Club to avoid confusion with the town of Imperial. In 1974, the club sold its rink to the Kronau Curling Club in nearby Kronau; the Kronau club dismantled and hauled the rink from Regina and rebuilt it, opening it by 1976.
