2013 SAFF Championship
The 2013 South Asian Football Federation Championship, commonly referred to as 2013 SAFF Championship, was the 10th SAFF Championship for List of men's national association football teams#AFC (Asia), men's national football teams organized by the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF). The tournament took place from 31 August to 11 September 2013, and was hosted by Nepal for the second time, with the previous being in 1997. Host selection Nepal were selected as hosts in September 2012 during the 2012 SAFF Women's Championship in Sri Lanka. Broadcasting The tournament was broadcast live in Nepal on Kantipur Television Network, Tolo TV in Afghanistan and Television Maldives in Maldives. Every match was broadcast live on YouTube. Ali Ashfaq
Ali Ashfaq (; born 6 September 1985) is a Maldivian former professional association football, footballer who played as a Forward (association football), forward. Nicknamed "Man of Steel" (), he is regarded as one of the best players in the South Asian region. A prolific and individualistic goalscorer, he is a Free kick (association football), free-kick specialist and a clinical finisher. His trademark style of scoring is beating the defenders and rounding off the keeper to score. He is considered as the best Maldivian footballer ever, most notably when he was named as the "World's 2nd best top goal scorer" in 2013 by IFFHS, and the "Asian Football Confederation, AFC best goal-scorer of XXI century" after 2023, with 476 top-level goals. Ganesh Thapa
Ganesh Thapa () is a retired international football player and a former president of the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA). He was formerly the president of the South Asian Football Federation and the vice president of Asian Football Confederation (AFC). He is considered one of the greatest Nepali footballers of all time. He also served as Member of Parliament in Constituent Assembly of Nepal. Family Thapa is the younger brother of politician Kamal Thapa. Thapa is married to Hajuri Thapa and has two sons, Gaurav Thapa and Abhishek Thapa. Playing career Before becoming the president of ANFA, Thapa was a national football player and captain from 1979 to 1989. He played for East Bengal FC in the Calcutta Football League. The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) (Nepali language, Nepali: अखिल नेपाल फुटबल संघ (एन्फा)) is the governing body of football in Nepal. It is responsible for the Nepal national football team, men's and Nepal women's national football team, women's national teams as well as club competitions. 2018 SAFF Championship
The 2018 SAFF Championship, also known as the 2018 SAFF Suzuki Cup for sponsorship reasons, was the 12th edition of the SAFF Championship, the biennial international men's association football, football championship of South Asia organized by South Asian Football Federation, SAFF. It was initially scheduled to be hosted by Bangladesh in December 2017, but later rescheduled to 4–15 September 2018. Host selection On 2 January 2016, the SAFF executive committee made a decision that Bangladesh would host the 2017 SAFF Championship at a meeting held in Trivandrum, India. Maldives and Bhutan made bids to host the games but the latter withdrew its bid. 2009 SAFF Championship
The 2009 SAFF Championship, South Asian Football Federation Championship was hosted by Bangladesh from 4 to 13 December 2009. Bangladesh was awarded to host the tournament after the withdrawal of original hosts India. After India's reluctance to host the tournament, in May 2009, at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Congress in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) president Kazi Salahuddin on his return from the AFC Congress informed that although India were still retaining their status as hosts of the championship, Bangladesh and Nepal had turned in fresh bids in anticipation of staging this prestigious eight-nation meet. 2005 South Asian Football Federation Gold Cup
The 2005 SAFF Gold Cup was the sixth edition of SAFF Gold Cup. It was the second time the competition was held in Pakistan. All matches were held at the People's Football Stadium in Karachi. The tournament started on 7 December and ended on 17 December. India won their fourth title after defeating Bangladesh 2–0 in the finals. Both sides contested the finals in the 1999 edition with India coming out victorious with the same result and Bhaichung Bhutia scored in that finals as well. Ahmed Thariq, Ali Ashfaq and Ibrahim Fazeel of Maldives were the top-scorers of the tournament, all scoring three goals each. The 1999 SAFF Gold Cup (also known as SAFF Coca-Cola Cup due to sponsorship reasons) was held in Goa, India between 22 April 1999 and 1 May 1999. The Nehru Stadium in Margao played host to all matches. India successfully defended their title by beating Bangladesh in the final, by doing so they became the first team to retain the title as well.
