2013 European Cup Winter Throwing
The 2013 European Cup Winter Throwing was held on 16 and 17 March at the Pista de Atletismo Universitat Jaume I and Complejo Deportivo Gaetà Huguet in Castellón, Spain. It was the thirteenth edition of the athletics competition in throwing events and was jointly organised by the European Athletic Association and the Real Federación Española de Atletismo. The competition featured men's and women's contests in shot put, discus throw, javelin throw and hammer throw. In addition to the senior competitions, there were also under-23 events for younger athletes. A total of 249 athletes from 38 nations entered the competition. It was the second time that Spain hosted the event, following on from the 2009 edition held in Tenerife. 2012 European Cup Winter Throwing
The 2012 European Cup Winter Throwing was held on 17 and 18 March at the Stadion Topolica in Bar, Montenegro. It was the twelfth edition of the athletics competition for throwing events and was jointly organised by the European Athletic Association and the Athletic Federation of Montenegro. The competition featured men's and women's contests in shot put, discus throw, javelin throw and hammer throw. In addition to the senior competitions, there were also under-23 events for younger athletes. A total of 294 athletes from 39 European countries entered the competition. On the first day of the competition, Nadzeya Ostapchuk produced a throw of 20.29 m to win the shot put, while Martina Ratej took the women's javelin title. Dutchman Erik Cadée won the men's discus and Kirill Ikonnikov took the hammer title for Russia. Virgilijus Alekna
Virgilijus Alekna (; 13 February 1972) is a Lithuanian former discus thrower and politician. He won medals at the 2000, 2004 and 2008 Olympics, including two golds. After retiring from athletics, Alekna was elected to the national parliament, the Seimas, in 2016. He has 3 children - Martynas Alekna, Mykolas Alekna and Gabrielė Aleknaite. Athletics career Alekna has won two gold medals in the Summer Olympics in the discus throw, the first was in 2000 and the second in 2004. The discus throw (), also known as disc throw, is a track and field event in which an athlete throws a heavy disc—called a discus—in an attempt to mark a farther distance than their competitors. It is an ancient sport, as demonstrated by the fifth-century-BC Myron statue '' Discobolus''. Georgi Stoyanov Ivanov ( bg, Георги Стоянов Иванов; born 13 March 1985 in Sliven) is a Bulgarian shot putter. His personal best is 21.09 metres, achieved on 20 July 2013 in Ústí nad Labem. Shot Put
The shot put is a track and field event involving "putting" (throwing) a heavy spherical ball—the ''shot''—as far as possible. The shot put competition for men has been a part of the modern Olympics since their revival in 1896, and women's competition began in 1948. Tatyana Viktorovna Lysenko (russian: Татьяна Викторовна Лысенко, born 9 October 1983 in Bataysk) is a Russian hammer thrower. Her career has been blighted by repeated doping infractions. In February 2019, the Court of Arbitration for Sport handed her an eight-year ban for doping, starting from 2 July 2016. Nadine Müller (born 21 November 1985) is a German discus thrower. She was born in Leipzig. As a teenager, she won the silver medal at the 2003 European Junior Championships and the bronze medal at the 2004 World Junior Championships. Her personal best throw as a junior was 57.85 metres, achieved in May 2004 in Wiesbaden. She improved gradually to 59.35 metres in May 2005 and 62.93 metres in May 2007, both in Halle.
