2011–12 Umaglesi Liga
The 2011–12 Umaglesi Liga was the 23rd season of top-tier football in Georgia. It began on 6 August 2011 and ended on 21 May 2012. The league added two teams for this season, increasing its size from ten to twelve teams. The league was won by Zestafoni, who successfully defended their title. Metalurgi Rustavi, Torpedo Kutaisi and Dila Gori qualified for the 2012–13 UEFA Europa League, while Spartaki Tskhinvali and Gagra were relegated. Changes from 2010–11 season The league expanded from ten to twelve teams for this season. In order to accommodate the additional teams, the competition mode was changed from a single-phase, quadruple round-robin schedule to a double-phase championship. All twelve teams first played a regular double round-robin schedule for a total of 22 matches, once at home and once away against each opponent. Erovnuli Liga
The Erovnuli Liga ( ka, ეროვნული ლიგა - lit. National League) is the top division of professional football in Georgia. Since 1990, it has been organized by the Professional Football League of Georgia and Georgian Football Federation. From 1927 to 1989, the competition was held as a regional tournament within the Soviet Union. From 2017 the Erovnuli Liga switched to a spring-autumn system, with only 10 clubs in the top flight. Pirveli Liga
The Georgian Erovnuli Liga 2 ( ka, ეროვნული ლიგა 2; ), organized since 1990 by GFF, serves as the second division of professional football in Georgia. Under the current name the league was introduced for the 2017 season as a part of reorganization process of the entire league system. It was formerly known as Pirveli liga (the First league). Structure There are ten clubs competing in Erovnuli Liga 2. During the season each club plays against its rival four times, twice at home and twice away. At the end of each season the winner gains automatic promotion and the bottom club is relegated. The runner-up and 3rd placed team participate in two-legged home and away play-off matches against the respectively 9th and 8th placed clubs of Erovnuli Liga. Gori ( ka, გორი ) is a city in eastern Georgia, which serves as the regional capital of Shida Kartli and is located at the confluence of two rivers, the Mtkvari and the Liakhvi. Gori is the fifth most populous city in Georgia. Its name comes from the Georgian word ''gora'' (გორა), meaning "heap", "hill", or "mountain". Zugdidi
Zugdidi ( ka, ზუგდიდი; xmf, ზუგდიდი or ზუგიდი) is a city in the western Georgian historical province of Samegrelo (Mingrelia). It is situated in the north-west of that province. FC Sioni Bolnisi
FC Sioni is a Georgian football club based in Bolnisi. Following the 2022 season, they were relegated to Erovnuli Liga Liga 2, the second tier of Georgian league system. The team has once claimed the national league champion's title. Sioni plays their home matches at local stadium named after Tamaz Stepania. History The football club in Bolnisi was founded in 1936. FC Kolkheti-1913 is a Georgian football club based in Poti. Following the 2022 season, the club earned promotion to Liga 2, the second division of Erovnuli Liga. Mtskheta ( ka, მცხეთა, tr ) is a city in Mtskheta-Mtianeti province of Georgia. It is one of the oldest cities in Georgia as well as one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the World. FC Merani Martvili is a Georgian association football club based in Martvili, which currently takes part in Liga 2, the second division of Georgian league system. Being one of the youngest clubs, Merani have spent five seasons in the top division and once reached the final of David Kipiani Cup.
