2011 European Short Track Speed Skating Championships
The 2011 European Short Track Speed Skating Championships took place between 14 and 16 January 2011 in Heerenveen, Netherlands. The original winner in men's competition was Thibaut Fauconnet of France but he was later disqualified for doping offence. Heerenveen
Heerenveen (, fry, It Hearrenfean ) is a town and municipality in the province of Friesland (Fryslân), in the Northern Netherlands. In 2021, the town had a population of 29,790 (1 January) while the municipality had a population 50,859 (1 July). History The town was established in 1551 by three lords as a location for the purpose of digging peat which was used for fuel, hence the name (''heer'' is "lord", ''veen'' is "peat"). Heerenveen was not one of the traditional eleven cities in Friesland (Fryslân) as it did not have so-called city rights. However, it is now one of the larger municipalities of the province. The windmill ''Welgelegen'' or ''Tjepkema's Molen'' is the only survivor of seventeen which have stood in Heerenveen. Jon Eley (born 19 August 1984 in Solihull) is a British short track speed skater who competed at the 2006 Winter Olympics, the 2010 Winter Olympics and the 2014 Winter Olympics. Eley finished fifth in the 500 metres in Torino, and was a member of the British team that finished sixth in the 5000 metre relay in Vancouver. Eley was part of the British 5,000m relay team that broke the world record in February 2011. Annita Van Doorn
Annita van Doorn (born 26 April 1983) is a Dutch Short track speed skater. She made her international debut in 2003 at the World Championships for teams. Van Doorn was the first Dutch short track speed skater with a victory on a World Cup distance. She took a lap on her competitors on the 3000 meters and won the super final, surprisingly, at her second World Cup competition. In 2008, she became European Champion in the 500 meters in Ventspils, Latvia. In the overall classification she ended as 5th. She won bronze medals at the European Championships with the relay team in 2007, 2009 en 2010. In 2009 Van Doorn won her first Dutch title. At the Olympic Games in Vancouver, Van Doorn ended as fourth on the relay with her team, together with teammates Liesbeth Mau Asam, Jorien ter Mors, Sanne van Kerkhof and Maaike Vos. Sanne van Kerkhof (born 27 March 1987) is a Dutch former short track speed skater. She participated in the 2010 Winter Olympics and the 2014 Winter Olympics. Jorien Ter Mors
Jorien ter Mors (; born 21 December 1989) is a retired Dutch speed skater on both short track and long track. She was the Olympic champion in the 1500 metres and team pursuit (long track) at the 2014 Winter Olympics and the 1000 metres at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Short track Ter Mors competed at the 2010 Winter Olympics for the Netherlands. She placed third in her round one race of the 500 metres and was disqualified in the opening round of the 1000 metres, failing to advance. Arianna Fontana OMRI (born 14 April 1990) is an Italian short track speed skater, who has won eleven Olympic medals among these two gold medals in the 500m short track, one at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang and the second one at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
