2010 International Rules Series
The 2010 International Rules Series (officially the 2010 Irish Daily Mail International Rules Series) was the 15th International Rules Series, contested between Gaelic football players from Ireland and Australian rules football players from Australia. The Series was won by Australia, winning the first test by seven points and the second test by three, thereby winning with an aggregate score of 102 to 92. This was the first time Australia have won the Cormac McAnallen Cup since 2006. Dane Swan was awarded the Jim Stynes Medal, for being Australia best player over the Series, while Colm Begley won the equivalent award for Ireland. The second test in Croke Park on 30 October marked the end of the broadcasting career of commentator Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh who commentated on his last live match on RTÉ Radio. International Rules Series
The International Rules Series is a senior men's international rules football competition between the Australia international rules football team (selected by the Australian Football League) and the Ireland international rules football team (selected by the Gaelic Athletic Association). International rules football is played using a set of compromise rules devised by both governing bodies. While the International Rules Series matches use some rules from Australian rules football, the field, ball and uniforms of both teams are derived from Gaelic football. The competition originated in the 1980s, with four series played in that decade. Colm Begley
Colm Begley (born 31 August 1986) is an Irish Gaelic footballer from County Laois. He has also played Australian rules football for the St Kilda Football Club and the Brisbane Lions of the Australian Football League (AFL). Early life Begley was born in Portlaoise and raised in nearby Stradbally. He began playing gaelic football at a young age at Stradbally GAA and by 19 had debuted in the senior Laios county team, winning the 2005 Senior Football County Final. Begley was scouted by the Lions football manager Graeme Allan, along with several other potential recruits during a training camp in Ireland, having previously witnessed a near best on ground performance from the young Irishman in the Under 19s International Rules series playing for Ireland against Australia. Michael Shields (footballer)
Michael Shields (born 8 August 1986) is an Irish sportsperson. Born in Cork, he plays Gaelic football with his local club St Finbarr's and was a member at senior level of the Cork county football team from 2005. He won an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship in 2010. Playing career Club Shields plays his club Gaelic football with the St Finbarr's club on the south side of Cork city. He first came to prominence on the club scene at underage levels; however, he experienced little success with the St Finbarr's minor or under-21 teams. In 2007, after fifty years of playing in the top flight of the County Senior Football Championship, St Finbarr's were relegated to the intermediate level. Kildare GAA
The Kildare County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), or Kildare GAA, is one of 12 county boards governed by the Leinster provincial council of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for the administration of Gaelic games in County Kildare. The County Board is responsible for preparing the Kildare county teams in the various Gaelic sporting codes; football, hurling and camogie. The county football team won the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC) on four occasions in less than 25 years at the beginning of the 20th century and had accumulated ten Leinster Senior Football Championships by 1935; however, it then went into decline. Benny Coulter
Brendan "Benny" Coulter is an Irish Gaelic football manager and player who plays for his local club Mayobridge and, previously, for the Down senior football team until his retirement in 2014; he also teaches kids about Gaelic in different schools around Northern Ireland. Playing career During his prime, Coulter was regarded as one of the best attackers in Gaelic football. He is Ulster's leading Championship goal scorer of all-time. He won an Ulster Minor Championship Medal in 1999, and later that year won the All-Ireland Minor Football Championship with Down he scored 1-02 in the All Ireland Final. The Offaly County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) () or Offaly GAA is one of the 32 County board (Gaelic games), county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Offaly. 2006 International Rules Series
The 2006 International Rules Series (officially the 2006 Coca-Cola International Rules Series) was the 13th annual International Rules Series and was played between Ireland and Australia. The 2006 series involved two sell-out test matches, the first in Galway and the second in Dublin. Both of the matches were a landmark occasion for the International Rules Series and Irish sport; the Galway test was the first international rules series match to be played under floodlights in Ireland and the first to be played outside Dublin, whilst the attendance for the second test was the largest in the history of international sport in Ireland. 2009 International Rules Series
The 2009 International Rules Series (officially the 2009 Coca-Cola International Rules Series) was to have been the 15th International Rules Series football competition. On 28 July 2009 the Australian Football League (AFL) informed the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) that due to economic conditions in Australia they would not be travelling to Ireland for the series in October. GAA President Christy Cooney and Ireland's international rules team manager Seán Boylan both expressed their disappointment at the AFL's decision. The AFL committed in writing that it would travel to Ireland for the series in 2010, and the Gaelic Grounds and Croke Park would host those two games. Anthony Tohill
Anthony Tohill (born 2 August 1971) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played for the Derry county team in the 1990s and early 2000s. He is a former chief executive of the Mid Ulster District Council. Early life and family Tohill was born in Swatragh, a son of Hugh and Eileen Tohill. He has three brothers and four sisters. His brother, Hugh Martin Tohill, was also on the panel of Derry's 1993 All-Ireland winning team. His sister, Aileen, has had a very successful camogie career with Swatragh and Derry and is the Ulster GAA Council Lifestyle & Wellbeing Manager. Michael Raymond Malthouse (born 17 August 1953) is a former Australian rules footballer and coach, who played for the St Kilda Football Club and Richmond Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL).
