Michael Shields (footballer)
Michael Shields (born 8 August 1986) is an Irish sportsperson. Born in Cork, he plays Gaelic football with his local club St Finbarr's and was a member at senior level of the Cork county football team from 2005. He won an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship in 2010. Playing career Club Shields plays his club Gaelic football with the St Finbarr's club on the south side of Cork city. He first came to prominence on the club scene at underage levels; however, he experienced little success with the St Finbarr's minor or under-21 teams. In 2007, after fifty years of playing in the top flight of the County Senior Football Championship, St Finbarr's were relegated to the intermediate level. This grade of football did not pose any problem to Shields's side, as they reached the final in 2008. St Vincent's provided the opposition on that occasion; however, 'the Barr's' were held to a draw. Cork ( , from , meaning 'marsh') is the second largest city in Ireland and third largest city by population on the island of Ireland. Colm O'Neill (born 1988)
Colm O'Neill (born 22 September 1988) is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays as a right corner-forward for the Cork senior team. O'Neill made his first appearance for the team during the 2009 championship and quickly became a regular member of the starting fifteen. Since then he has won one All-Ireland medals, two Munster medals, two National League medals and one All-Star award. O'Neill has been an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. At club level O'Neill has won divisional football medals with Ballyclough. Playing career Club O'Neill plays his club football with his local club called Ballyclough. A captain of a Gaelic games team, sometimes known as a ''skipper'', is a player who, during the course of a match as well as before and after it, has several additional roles and responsibilities over and above those of his teammates. Tradition means that some teams rotate the captaincy annually, though others may adopt a permanent captain. As well as being an onfield leader, a captain takes the coin toss and raises the trophy when this is the game's prize. Responsibilities The captain leads the team out onto the pitch. Before the start of a match, a coin toss between captains of the opposing teams is used to determine which end of the ground each team will kick to. The Tyrone County Board ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael, Coiste Chontae Tír Eoghain), or Tyrone GAA, is one of the 32 county boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) in Ireland, and is responsible for the administration of Gaelic games in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. The Kildare County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), or Kildare GAA, is one of 12 county boards governed by the Leinster provincial council of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for the administration of Gaelic games in County Kildare The County Board is responsible for preparing the Kildare county teams in the various Gaelic sporting codes; football, hurling and camogie. Alan Quirke
Alan Quirke (born 19 October 1976 in Innishannon, County Cork, Ireland) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays Gaelic football with his local club Valley Rovers and was a member of the Cork senior inter-county team from 1999 to 2013. Playing career Club Quirke plays Gaelic football with his local club Valley Rovers and has enjoyed much success with the great club. It was with UCC, however, that he tasted his first major success on the football field. In 1999 Quirke was the goalkeeper on the university's senior football team. Croke Park ( ga, Páirc an Chrócaigh, ) is a Gaelic games stadium in Dublin, Ireland. Named after Archbishop Thomas Croke, it is referred to as Croker by GAA fans and locals. It serves as both the principal national stadium of Ireland and headquarters of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). Munster Senior Football Championship
The Munster Senior Football Championship, known simply as the Munster Championship and shortened to Munster SFC, is an annual inter-county Gaelic football competition organised by the Munster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county Gaelic football competition in the province of Munster, and has been contested every year, bar one, since the 1888 championship. The final, currently held on the fourth Saturday in June, serves as the culmination of a series of games played during May and June, and the results determine which team receives the Munster Cup. James Masters (Gaelic Footballer)
James Masters (born 13 July 1982 in Cork, Ireland) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played for the Nemo Rangers club and at senior level for the Cork county team from 2005 until 2010. Biography James Masters was born in Cork in 1982. He was educated locally at Coláiste Chríost Rí on the south side of the city. It was here that he first came to prominence as a hurler and a footballer on various school teams. In 2001 Masters was the star player for the coláiste when he scored nine points against St. Colman's College to win the county colleges' title. He later studied at the Garda Síochána College in Templemore and currently works as a Garda in Crookstown.
