2009–10 Maltese Third Division
The Maltese Third Division 2009–10 (known as BOV 3rd Division 2009–10 due to sponsorship reasons) was the 10th season of the Maltese Third Division. It started in September 2009 and ended in May 2010 with the promotion play-offs. Naxxar Lions, Mgarr United and Marsa were relegated from the 2008–09 Maltese Second Division. The division is divided into two sections (Section A and Section B), both with 10 teams. The winners of each section faced each other in a play-off where the winner was crowned as champion of the division, but both teams were still given the promotion. Mgarr United won Section A, while Zejtun Corinthians won Section B after a decider with Naxxar Lions. In the Championship play-off Zejtun bet Mgarr 4–3 to win the Division. In the promotion play-offs semi-final Gudja United beat Santa Venera, who finished 10th in the Second Division. In the final Naxxar Lions defeated Gudja on penalties to win promotion. Maltese Third Division
The Maltese Third Division (also known as the BOV Third Division due to sponsorship reasons) was the lowest league level in Maltese football until 2020 when it was merged with the Maltese Second Division to create the National Amateur League. History The league was founded in 2000. Until 2011 the division comprised two sections - Section A with eleven teams and Section B with eleven teams. Both sections play two rounds with the winner in each group getting promoted to the Maltese Second Division. Relegation play-offs between the 2nd and 3rd placed teams of both groups and the 10th-place finisher of Second Division determined the third team to be in the Second Division. Because it is the lowest level in the Maltese Football League, there is no formal relegation from the league. However, the two lowest placed teams have to reapply to take part the following season. Naxxar () is a town and local council in the Northern Region of Malta. The population in March 2014 was 14,891. The Naxxar Church is dedicated to Our Lady of Victories. Fgura (, ) is a town in the Port Region of Malta. It has a population of 13,066 as of 2021. Qrendi F
Qrendi () is a village in the Western Region of Malta, with a population of 3,148 people as of October 2021. It is located close to Mqabba, Żurrieq and Siġġiewi. Within its boundaries are the two Neolithic temples of Mnajdra and Ħaġar Qim. Two annual feasts are held in Qrendi: the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes is celebrated either on the last Sunday of June or the first Sunday of July, and the Feast of the Ascension of Our Lady on 15 August. Although the majority of the village's old core buildings remain today, Qrendi has changed considerably in recent times.
