2009 ICC World Cricket League Division Three
The 2009 ICC World Cricket League Division Three was a cricket tournament that took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from 24 to 31 January 2009. It formed part of the ICC World Cricket League and qualifying for the 2011 Cricket World Cup. Afghanistan won the tournament, with Uganda coming in second. Both teams qualified for the 2011 World Cup qualification tournament. Afghanistan and Uganda each won four matches and lost one, as did Papua New Guinea; the rankings tie was broken by net run rate. Papua New Guinea were the first to reach four wins, as Afghanistan and Uganda both had their fifth matches abandoned due to rain and had to replay them the next day. The rain also resulted in the cancellation of the finals round ranking matches (which would not affect promotion or relegation in any case), and the group round result table was the final standings. Mohammad Asghar Afghan (; born Mohammad Asghar Stanikzai) is an Afghan former cricketer who had captained the Afghanistan national cricket team. Asghar is a right-handed batsman and a medium-fast bowler. In May 2018, he was named as the captain of Afghanistan, for their inaugural Test match, against India. He made his Test debut, against India, on 14 June 2018. On 2 August 2018, he changed his last name from Stanikzai to Afghan. Alejandro "Alec" Ferguson (born July 19, 1978) is an Argentine cricketer. He is a right-handed batsman and wicket-keeper who has played for Argentina since 1994. Esteban Alberto "Billy" MacDermott (born November 2, 1981) is an Argentine cricketer. He played for Argentina between 1997 and 2014, including six matches in 2007 ICC World Cricket League Division Two with List A status. He is a lower-order batsman and off spin bowler. Raees Ahmadzai (; born 3 September 1984) is an Afghan former cricketer who represented the Afghanistan national cricket team until his retirement in May 2010. Ahmadzai is a right-handed batsman who bowls right-arm off break. He is also a UNICEF National Goodwill Ambassador. Khaliq Dad Noori (born 1 January 1984) is an Afghan cricketer who plays for the Afghanistan national cricket team. He is a right-handed batsman who bowls right-arm fast-medium. Early career Noori was born in Baghlan, Afghanistan. He spent much of his early years in refugee camps with his family, fleeing from the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and the subsequent Civil War that followed the Soviet withdrawal.
