2009 APRA Silver Scroll Awards
The 2009 APRA Silver Scroll Awards were held on Thursday, September 17, 2009, at the Christchurch Town Hall, celebrating excellence in New Zealand songwriting. The Silver Scroll Award was presented to James Milne and Luke Buda for the Lawrence Arabia song "Apple Pie Bed", and musicians and academics Hirini Melbourne and Richard Nunns were inducted into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame. Silver Scroll Award The Silver Scroll Award celebrates outstanding achievement in the songwriting of original New Zealand pop music. The evening's music performances were again produced by Don McGlashan. Each of the nominated songs were covered in a new style by another artist. Christchurch Town Hall
The Christchurch Town Hall, since 2007 formally known as the Christchurch Town Hall of the Performing Arts, opened in 1972, is Christchurch, New Zealand's premier performing arts centre. It is located in the Christchurch Central City, central city on the banks of the Avon River (Canterbury), Avon River overlooking Victoria Square, Christchurch, Victoria Square, opposite the former location of the demolished Christchurch Convention Centre. Due to significant damage sustained during the February 2011 Christchurch earthquake, it was closed until 2019. Council staff initially recommended demolition of all but the main auditorium, but at a meeting in November 2012, councillors voted to rebuild the entire hall. Dimmer (band)
Dimmer was the name under which New Zealand musician Shayne Carter (formerly of Straitjacket Fits, The DoubleHappys, and Bored Games) recorded and played music from 1994. It began as an umbrella name for jam sessions and short-lived band line-ups, then home recordings, then an ensemble with various members and guests. This evolution led to more settled four-piece rock band (especially from 2006 to 2010, when only the bassist changed). At least 41 musicians have been acknowledged as playing a part in Dimmer over 18 years, with Carter the only permanent fixture. The last Dimmer recordings were made in 2009, with the band playing live shows through 2010. A short farewell tour announced the end of the band in 2012, and Carter began recording under his own name after that. Motocade
Motocade is a New Zealand Rock band formed in Auckland in 2003 by Eden Mulholland (singer/guitarist), Scott Sutherland (bass), Geordie McCallum (guitar/keyboards) and Will Mulholland (drums). In 2007 the music video for the single "My Friends" received high rotation on the New Zealand music channel C4 and Juice TV. In early 2008 the music video for the single "Soap Opera" was in rotation on C4. Motocade's song Octopus was featured in a Home and Away ''Home and Away'' (''H&A'') is an Australian television soap opera. It was created by Alan Bateman and commenced broadcast on the Seven Network on 17 January 1988. Eden Mulholland
Eden Mulholland (born 1979) is a New Zealand composer, musician and dancer. He was a founder of the band Motocade and composes for dance and the World of Wearable Art show. Early life and education Mulholland was born in 1979. He grew up in Christchurch and attended Shirley Boys' High School. He came from a musical household: his father was in a band, his mother played the piano, all of the five children played and sang and he later played in bands with his older brothers Will and Jol. As a child he learnt ballet, studying with Russell Kerr and then completing a performing arts degree at Unitec where he graduated in 1998. Career In his career as a dancer Mulholland worked with choreographers Ann Dewey and Sean Durham, and dance companies Touch Compass and Black Grace. Nesian Mystik
Nesian Mystik was a New Zealand hip-hop/ R&B group which formed in 1999. The cultural backgrounds of its members united a remarkable diversity of Polynesia by bringing together Cook Island, Tongan, Samoan and Maori ancestry. As well as producing a record number of Top 10 New Zealand singles, Nesian Mystik supported international acts such as Robbie Williams, Missy Elliott, Shaggy and The Black Eyed Peas. The group officially disbanded in 2011 after a successful music career that included four commercially successful albums and numerous New Zealand Music Award nominations. Che Fu
Che Kuo Eruera Ness (born 1974), better known by his stage name Che Fu, is a New Zealand singer, songwriter and producer. A founding member of the band Supergroove, as a solo artist he has gone on to sell thousands of albums both in New Zealand and internationally. Che Fu is considered a pioneer of hip hop and Pasifika music in New Zealand. Early life Che Fu was born Che Ness in Auckland. His mother, Miriama Rauhihi Ness is of Māori descent and his father Tigilau Ness is Niuean. Elemeno P is a New Zealand rock band. The band's first album, '' Love & Disrespect'' was released on 4 July 2003, and reached number one on the RIANZ albums chart. Their second album, '' Trouble in Paradise'' was released on 24 November 2005 and includes the singles " 11:57", "Burn", "One Left Standing", and " You Are". Reb Fountain
Reb Fountain (born June 1973) is an American-born New Zealand singer and songwriter known for her genre-defying blend of alternative folk, country and pop-rock music. She first rose to prominence as a teenager, when she was labelled the "best voice to come out of Christchurch" in 1990. She subsequently disappeared from the music scene until the release of her 2006 debut album ''Like Water'', and its 2008 follow up ''Holster''. She stepped away from her solo career for close to a decade, before returning with her 2017 album ''Little Arrows''. The Mint Chicks
The Mint Chicks were a New Zealand noise rock and art punk group (the band began to refer to their style of music as "troublegum" and have been referred to as anything from neo-punk to schizo-pop to the only half-serious genre definition of shit-gaze). The band is originally from Auckland and relocated to Portland, Oregon, USA in 2007. Sir David Joseph Dobbyn (born 3 January 1957) is a New Zealand musician, singer–songwriter and record producer. In his early career he was a member of the rock group Th' Dudes and was the main creative force in pop band DD Smash. Since then he has released the majority of his recordings as a solo performer. Evermore (band)
Evermore were a rock band formed in Feilding, New Zealand, in 1999, made up of three brothers Jon Hume, Jon (guitar, vocals), Peter Hume (musician), Peter (keyboards, bass guitar, vocals) and Dann Hume (drums, guitar, vocals). The band was based in Sydney from 2004 to 2007 and then Melbourne until they became inactive in 2014. Vince Harder (born Charles Vincent Harder; 9 April 1982) is a New Zealand R&B/pop recording artist and producer. He is most notable for the 2008 song "Everything" with P-Money, which reached number one in New Zealand on the New Zealand Singles Chart in 2008.
