2008 Speedway World Cup
The 2008 FIM Nordicbet Speedway World Cup (SWC) is the 8th Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme, FIM Speedway World Cup season. The final took place on 19 July 2008 in sports, 2008 in Vojens, Denmark. The tournament was won by host team Denmark national speedway team, Denmark (49 pts) and they beat defending champion Poland national speedway team, Poland (46 pts), Sweden national speedway team, Sweden (39 pts) and Australia national speedway team, Australia (21 pts) in 2008 Speedway World Cup Final, the Final. It was the second time the Speedway World Cup was won by Denmark and their thirteenth Team World Champion title overall. Speedway World Cup
The Speedway World Cup is a motorcycle speedway event for national teams held in different countries. The first edition of the competition in the current format was held in 2001 and replaced the old Speedway World Team Cup, World Team Cup which ran from 1960 until 2000. The competition was held annually until 2017 when it was replaced by the Speedway of Nations pairs event. The Speedway World Cup returned in 2023 and will be held every three years. Borsod Volán Stadion is an association football ground and former motorcycle speedway track, located in the centre of Miskolc. Brandon Stadium
Brandon Stadium, also known as Coventry Stadium, is located 6 miles east of Coventry in Brandon, Warwickshire, England. It was the home of the Coventry Bees motorcycle speedway team. It also hosted BriSCA F1 Stock Car Racing on the 1st Saturday of the month from April through to November. From 1978 until early 2016 it intermittently hosted greyhound racing. As of 2023, it is closed and has become dilapidated after several fires, including an arson attack in 2022. Speedway History Brandon Stadium's first speedway meeting took place on 29 September 1928, hot on the heels of Coventry's first speedway venue at Lythalls Lane Stadium. Alfred Smoczyk Stadium () is a stadium in Leszno, Poland. It is currently used for speedway matches and is the home stadium of Unia Leszno. The stadium has a capacity of 16,700 people. The stadium is located on ''ulica Strzelecka 7''. History Alfred Smoczyk (1928–1950) was the first Polish speedway superstar. He successfully competed on Dutch tracks in the late 1940s, but died in a road accident in October 1950. He was the first Individual Polish Champion after World War II (in 1949). The year after his death in 1951, the Alfred Smoczyk Memorial event was first held and shortly afterwards in April 1952, plans were put into action to build a new speedway stadium. Czech Republic National Speedway Team
The Czech Republic national speedway team is one of the major teams in international motorcycle speedway. History As Czechoslovakia The Czechoslovakia speedway team (which consisted predominantly of Czech Republic riders) competed in the inaugural Speedway World Team Cup during the 1960 Speedway World Team Cup and won the bronze medal after finishing third in the final. Throughout the history of World Team Cup, the team were regular World Cup contenders from 1960 until their final World Cup in 1992. They reached the final on fourteen occasions, winning the silver medal in 1963 and two more bronze medals in 1977 and 1979. In addition to the four medals at the World Cup, the team won a bronze medal at the Speedway World Pairs Championship.
